My Biggest Fear and the End of the United States of America?

Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart

It is undoubtedly a great thing for our nation’s future that Trump has been indicted for his organization, planning, and execution of the January 6, 2021 failed coup. However, if he is not convicted of sedition or treason, I am afraid that America will become extinct, and the dream will have become nothing but a memory.

This is not a fear tactic, it is reality. If we have become a nation without laws, the Constitution, our traditions, our principles and values will become non-existent. If anyone has ever been convicted of our nation’s highest crime, how can Trump be exonerated? My wife and I watched all three hours of the January 6 insurrection, from the moment Trump ordered his Neo-Nazi army to halt the certification of the Electoral College until the end of violence and desecration inside one of our most cherished buildings, and there can be no doubt about what happened on the darkest day in America’s history. This was the most egregious attack on the United States of America in history, far worse than December 7, 1941, or September 11, 2001. This was a direct attack on our democratic form of government, our nation’s soul.

Trump is our nation’s greatest villain. He is a traitor to everything our Founding Fathers believed. He defecated on our flag and every president who preceded him, and many of them were far from adequate. I am a true American and am outraged that he remains free to tell lies to his cult, and continue to divide our nation. Everything I once believed about our justice system, the good parts, were lies. There is no justice in America. Trump is undoubtedly above the law.

The United States of America needs a “redo.” Our leaders have strayed so far from the path designated by the Constitutional Congress in 1787, I fear they can never find their way back. America is a country whose only “god” is money. Congress continues to pass laws protecting the super-rich and their desires to increase their personal wealth while the majority of Americans are ignored. This is why the quality of life for our nation’s people was rated at the bottom of the list of developed nations.

Our government brags about America being the “richest and greatest nation in the world.” This is only true if you are part of the wealthiest demographic. Most Americans struggle to survive. In the 21st century red states are passing voter suppression laws, and laws intended to punish women for making decisions about their own physical and mental health, and the LGBTQ community for demanding equal rights guaranteed them by the Constitution.

We elect men and women whose only job, their only responsibility is to serve the needs of all 330 million people. Instead, once elected they ignore us and all their efforts are focused on their wealthy owners, and their personal ambitions. Our system is dysfunctional, and it is also irreparable. Change has become a word and an idea ignored by all 545 men and women who now rule over us in Washington. They seek ultimate power, and the American people have become collateral damage.

It's becoming more difficult every day to remember the nation of my youth when we had two legitimate parties who actually deliberated the issues and found compromise. I feel abandoned by the Supreme Court who until the Trump Administration actually performed the function designed by our Founders at the end of the Constitutional Convention in 1789. I have no trust, no faith in anyone who has power over me and those I love.

All of this can be blamed on the American voter. It is an irrefutable fact that most voters cast their ballots for a political party, and what they see and hear on television. They are too lazy or simply don’t care about the quality of candidates they vote into positions of power and privilege.

Ignorant voters forced Trump upon real Americans, and the damage is done. It will never be repaired, at least not in my lifetime.

Lock him up.
