Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart Big mistake. Our Founding Fathers readily admitted that what they created was not perfect. Their biggest mistake was underestimating the weaknesses of all mankind. They mistakenly believed that their successors would be honorable and patriotic men who would improve upon their failures. Most of their ideas, their dreams, were based on human rights: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I will always respect their intent to make what has become the American dream available to every man and woman in our nation.   At the close of the Constitutional Convention in 1789, our Founding Fathers were fully aware that mistakes had been made. Possibly their biggest mistake was assuming that their successors would rectify their errors and make the United States of America the greatest country the world had ever seen. However, God’s biggest mistake, creating mankind, is greatly flawed. The men who have ruled over us are afflicted with an innate need for great power and great wealth. From 1789 until today, our government promised its citizens “free and fair elections.” For the most part, it was a promise kept until 2000. Beginning in 1981, the ugliest profession became increasingly vile and destructive. The ambitions of professional politicians drove our two political parties into a frenzy, placing reelection ahead of the public interest. The desire for power replaced any intent to “do the right thing” for the people of their country. Before I continue, let me repeat myself.
