Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart On what should be a day when our entire nation celebrates the privilege of being a citizen of the United States of America, July 4, 2026, most of our nation will be struggling to purchase food for a family barbecue or picnic. Trump stated one fact, possibly the only truthful words he has spoken in nearly 80 years: “I am not concerned about the finances of the American people.”  It’s always about Trump and only Trump. TRUMP IS PLANNING A CELEBRATION FOR JULY 4 TH , BUT IT’S UNRAVELING RAPIDLY He’s calling it the “Great American State Fair:” another stupid and meaningless name, just like his slogan, “Make America Great Again.” However, it appears that many true and patriotic Americans are refusing to participate in Trump’s circus. Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart Whoever came up with the idea to have a national holiday to celebrate all 47 of our nation’s presidents was an idiot who obviously never read the history of our country. Most of the men who were given the opportunity and privilege to lead America’s people were complete failures, and some caused harm to our nation’s future. Only a few should receive such an honor, because only a handful performed the duties required of an American President. When I was a young man, our nation celebrated the lives of two Presidents, Abraham Lincoln on February 12 th , and George Washington on February 22 nd . They were deserving of the honor. I would have added Franklin Delano Roosevelt, whose birthday is January 30. “The People’s President” was the greatest of all time for a single reason: he was the only man to place all Americans in priority number one. Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart The place in which I reside on this day July 2, 2024, is not the United States of America. You can call it “Trumpland,” the “Fascist and Disunited States of America,” or any other name which is accurate and truthful. Whatever that name might be, it has no resemblance to the America I loved in my early years. I grew up in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Patriotism was absolute. Our brave men and women had recently defeated the spread of fascism. The most evil man in world history was dead and his army defeated. After Harry Truman made the controversial decision to use nuclear weapons against the men, women, and children in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Japanese Emperor begged the alliance to accept his surrender. Every American celebrated the end of WWII for the days, weeks, and months which followed. No one is celebrating America today.
