My state is accurately defined as a “swing state.” I have lived in the Silver State since 1986, and during election years, it is almost always a mystery how the people voted until all ballots are counted. However, early voting statistics are often indicators about what the final results might be. IS NEVADA EXPERIENCING A “BLUE WAVE?” Early voting and voting by mail have become increasingly popular. While some voters wait for election day, November 3 rd , I am disabled and voting by mail is often the only way to exercise my First Amendment right. Outsiders believe that our current governor, Joe Lombardo, a Republican, is popular, However, if you live in Nevada, and are an informed voter, you have a different opinion. Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart The main reason I hate this time of year, every two years, involves television. Incessant political ads are a waste of time and an attempt to challenge my intelligence. These expensive efforts to create an illusion that one candidate is perfect, while the other is Satan personified, are ludicrous. This is not how we should choose the men and women intended to serve us locally, statewide, or in Washington. We should all take a few minutes to learn the facts, the truth, before we give them our precious vote. It was a sad day. After an effective Governor, Steve Sisolak, led my state of Nevada through Trump’s devastating pandemic, he was defeated by a Trump lackey, Joe Lombardo. Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart   One of the headlines today was “Trump wins Nevada caucus.” The truth is, it was never in doubt. Our state’s MAGA Republican Governor, Joe Lombardo rigged the system to guarantee a Trump victory, with all 26 delegates representing Trump at the Republican National Convention in July. This is similar to Putin’s successful effort to secure a victory in the Electoral College in 2016.   So how did he accomplish this fascist effort? The simple answer is the same as all Republican actions designed to win elections: waste money.   On Tuesday, February 6, our state held the Republican primary. The Republican caucus was planned for February 8. Here’s how Lombardo guaranteed a win for the worst man in the world.   Names on the primary were not allowed to be on the caucus.   Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart I have lived in Nevada since 1986. I love this state as much as I loved the state of California where I was raised. I am a lucky man who has only lived in three of the greatest cities in America: Los Angeles, San Diego, and Reno. There have been many changes in Northern Nevada over the 38 years I have lived in the Silver State. One which confuses me the most involves Republican politicians, and Nevada’s voters. I am beginning to doubt the intelligence of our state’s politicians and those who elect them. Like many situations involving the worst man in the world, this year Nevada is making news with another first, and not in a good way.
