Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart Another “first” for America. Although there have been numerous attempted coups in the modern era, on January 6, 2021, I experienced another first-time event in my 79 years. A sitting president planned, organized, and executed an attempt to overthrow the government of the United States of America. Don’t think about trying to tell me that this violent insurrection was anything other than what it was if you did not watch all three hours of the darkest day in American history. Have no illusions: this was a bloody, hate-filled attack on our nation’s democratic government, and in its place, a plan to establish a fascist regime with Trump as its Fuhrer. Trump has no respect for the law, most significantly the Constitution of the United States of America. Facts later revealed, combined with what I watched for three hours on television on January 6, 2021, proved beyond a doubt that Trump organized, planned, and executed the failed coup attempt. He is a traitor and should be punished with death for the most egregious crime possible against our nation.
