The Keystone Cops Would not be Proud

Image
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart When I was a little boy, after school television was hilarious. I watched the original Little Rascals, also known as the Our Gang comedies, Laurel and Hardy, Buster Keaton and other old films including the Keystone Cops and later the Three Stooges. The Keystone Cops, also the Keystone Kops, were featured in slapstick silent movies only equaled by the Three Stooges. They were the first to make me laugh at their ridiculous antics and no dialogue was needed. A new troop of Keystone Cops has returned to the public eye, but the format has changed. They do not entertain with physical comedy, but with speech so hilarious I often believe they are serious. Their leader is a fat old man wearing a cheap “rug” on his head. This is the only physical comedy performed by these no-so-funny people. As it blows in the wind, we see the only part of his body which is not orange. The laughs they gave viewers in the early 1900’s continue today. However, this new group will be forgott...

I Must Have Fallen Asleep on November 5th and Awakened the Next Day in a Farrelly or Coen Brothers Movie

Image
What I have been reading over the last week cannot be real. It must be a farcical movie produced by the Farrelly or the Coen brothers. In this movie, the dumbest, most corrupt old, obese, white man in America became our country’s president. To add to the ridiculous overall theme, this moron selected men and women for his cabinet and closest advisors who are totally unfit for the positions offered to them, and in several situations opposed to the departments they will lead. If this is reality, this movie will produce more tears than laughter. Does anyone with average intelligence believe that “Little Marco Rubio” possesses any of the experience and skills necessary to hold the positions of Secretary of State? Rubio has been called the “laziest member of the Senate.” Not once has he displayed the ability to “think on his feet,” or the skills necessary to negotiate during the diplomaticl process. Then I read about Tulsi Gabbard. She has frequently been suspected of having a ...

Trump and Kennedy Are Rejected: This Should Become the Philosophy of All Americans

Image
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart Although Trump begged for support from members of the Libertarian Party on Saturday evening, he was adamantly rejected today. Instead of the cheers experienced from his cult at his hate rallies, he was booed, insulted and faced his own brand of name-calling. Both he and Robert Kennedy Jr. had hoped for an endorsement from the “third party,” but were ignored. The two presidential wannabes spoke at the Libertarian National Convention, but failed to convince its members that they were worthy of support. Instead, they chose Chase Oliver. He received 60 percent of the vote. WHO IS OLIVER, AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A LIBERTARIAN? “We did it! I am officially the presidential nominee,” Oliver posted on X after his nomination was approved. “It’s time to unify and move forward for liberty.” Oliver is a strong critic of Israel’s apparent genocide efforts in Gaza and now Rafah. Libertarian Party: “The Libertarian Party (LP) is a political party in the United States that p...

Remembering the America Experienced by a Child of the 50s and 60s

Image
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart   Every day the first thing we did at St. Gerard Majella’s Elementary School was face the corner of our classroom, put our hands over our hearts, and recite The Pledge of Allegiance. The school was located in West Los Angeles. I remember a feeling of pride as we spoke the patriotic words which ended “with liberty and justice for all.” In parts of America those six words have little meaning today. I loved learning about each of the 48 states: what the lives of each state’s people were like and how they were different from my own. I was thrilled on January 3, 1959 when Alaska became our 49 th state and again on August 21, 1959 when Hawaii became our 50 th . States were not labeled “red” or “blue,” they were all a part of the United States. How things have changed and moved backwards to 1861. Of course I was proud to be a “Californian.” I loved the weather, the beaches, and the lifestyle offered by such a diverse state. I learned about the state...
