In August of 1619 the first slaves stepped onto the New Land. This vile and inhuman act began what has become pervasive racism in the United States for more than 248 years. Republicans, with assistance from their propaganda machine, FOX News, continue to confirm that their party is composed of racists, bigots, homophobes, religious bigots, and sexists. This tells us that about one-half of all 340 million people are prejudiced without reason. One event which I never read in history class, and only learned about later in life, is demonstrative of how destructive racism has been for our nation’s future. Progress was made until 2022 when a corrupted Supreme Court reversed a decision made by a legitimate Court 49 years in the past removing a woman’s right to make decisions related to her personal physical and mental health. June 24, 2022 was one of the darkest days in America’s history.   Many changes have been made in my 77+ years, but not nearly enough .   Women are no Longer Asking for Equality, They’re Taking It   Equality in America remains virtually unchanged in 2024. Women, minorities, members of the LGBTQ Community, and both legal and illegal immigrants continue to be treated differently than white men. Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart First and foremost, the people of any country involved in a military conflict never “win a war.” Only military leaders and politicians discuss winning wars, and they, and only they profit from the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent men, women, and children. What has never been discussed since WWII is the fact that America’s government nor its military leaders have “won” a single war. Our military left in disgrace from Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and eventually, Afghanistan. However, the people living in those countries, and of their adversary, the United States of America, lost brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, fathers, husbands, and wives. People who can never be replaced. Being an original “baby boomer,” I often think of the tens of thousands of lives taken by the decision of one man in August of 1945. Our government is the most incompetent and corrupt in the world. The fourth estate no longer exists thanks to fake television news and social media. The Christian Religious Right controls one entire political party. These are just a few of the many failures and dangers to the existence of the United States in 2023. In America amassing great power and wealth is considered admirable and envied by millions. However, nothing is more destructive to positive accomplishments than the male ego combined with great wealth and great power.
