As we did for his predecessor four years ago, we present a final look at the numbers.   The economy lost 2.7 million jobs. The unemployment rate increased by 1.7 percentage points to 6.4%.   Paychecks grew faster than inflation. Average weekly earnings for all workers were up 8.4% after inflation.   After-tax corporate profits went up, and the stock market set new records. The S&P 500 index rose 67.8%.   The international trade deficit Trump promised to reduce went up. Trump decided to march from the White House to St. John’s Church for the sole purpose of obtaining a photo op to distract his followers from his failing attempt to win reelection. To reach St. John’s Church, he had to walk through Lafayette Park. A crowd of protestors filled a large part of the park. Trump called in members of the National Guard to lead the procession, and armed them with rubber bullets and tear gas. His plan was successful and an embarrassment for all Americans. Once again, our military was forced to attack peaceful citizens exercising their First Amendment rights for political reasons. Never forget Kent State. Michael Luttig, a retired federal judge on the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in Virginia, endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday. “In the presidential election of 2024 there is only one political party and one candidate for the presidency that can claim the mantle of defender and protector of America’s Democracy, the Constitution, and the Rule of Law,” Luttig said in a statement. Previously , in debates with Hillary Clinton and President Biden, he refused to answer questions and talked over answers offered by his opponents .
