Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart When I discuss the reasons Brett Kavanaugh is unfit to have a seat on the United States Supreme Court, three other names come to mind: Christine Blasey Ford, Anita Hill, and Clarence Thomas. I remember the confirmation hearings for Clarence Thomas in 1991. Both his hearings and his confirmation remain controversial. I continue to look at the events of that year as a demonstration of how sexist old, white men were then, and how many of them remain prejudiced against women today. Some remain in the Senate, and the Chairman of those hearings is our nation’s current president. Thomas’ only serious obstacle was an allegation of sexual misconduct from a former aide, Anita Hill. I considered Ms. Hill a credible witness. Her recounting of the details were believable, and contained information only she and Thomas would have known. Bush’s no minee was accused of sexual misconduct by a former aide, the “good old boys club " in the Senate confirmed Clarence Thomas for a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court. Since that day, he has disgraced himself time and time again .   He and his wife, “Ginny,” have received many luxury vacations from GOP donors: all billionaires. I have good reason and a huge responsibility to criticize it for its corruption and political bias. However, when it does the right thing, I also have a responsibility to praise them for their actions. Thanks to a poorly written Second Amendment, which is ambiguous and lacks definition, the NRA gun lobby, paid for by gun manufacturers and gun sellers, has used this one amendment to the Bill of Rights for their own benefit. Gun violence began to escalate in America in 1976, the same year the NRA ceased its purpose as a gun safety organization, and aligned itself with the corporate world. The most recent statistic I found was from 2022. In that one year, 48,117 men, women, and children lost their lives from the use of a gun. Firearm suicide: 26,993 people. He is complaining about criticism from the voting public related to his personal misdeeds , bias in favor of Donald Trump, and decisions which contradict the will of the people. He is also under attack with his five comrades who continue to vote against the intent of the Constitution.   On Friday, while attending a judicial conference, he was asked about working in a “meanspirited environment.”   "I think there's challenges to that.
