If You Want to Feel Safe in America, Take Action Now

Image
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart   Domestic terrorism is the greatest danger to life in America today. Our worthless and corrupt government refuses to take any action against the NRA gun lobby, because campaign donations are more important to them than human life.   This is one major issue which could be solved in a few days, but profits for gun manuf acturers and gun sellers take priority over the safety of the American people.    This week all d oubt was removed about which lobby owns the legislative and judicial branches of our government. Republicans in the House and Senate   ignored a number of mass shootings. In Washington, the Supreme Court struck down a law banning bump stocks. Bowing to the fascist and heartless NRA is a clear statement from right-wing politicians : “you don’t matter to us.”   SENATE REPUBLICANS SINK TO A NEW LOW   Senate Democrats attempted to pass a law which would override the decision by a right-wing biased C ourt. The law would have  banned an accessory for

Domestic Terrorism Should be Priority Number One for Voters in November

Image
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart According to the FBI, domestic terrorism is the greatest danger to the American people. Once again, the media is placing sensationalism ahead of the important issues to increase corporate profits. THE FOURTH ESTATE CONTINUES TO FAIL ITS PURPOSE Television “news” is placing its focus on the presidential candidates: one a hard-working President, and the other a wannabe dictator. Regardless, both are boring as hell. What should be in the headlines every day is the increasing number of mass shootings in America. 2023 was the most violent year in American history, and 2024 is poised to become more deadly. Seven years ago we were shocked by the fact that the number of mass shootings outnumbered the days on the calendar. This has become the norm in the 21 st century. AMERICA HAS EARNED THE TITLE OF “MOST DANGEROUS COUNTRY IN THE WORLD” The truth you will never hear from the media is frightening. The United States is the most dangerous country in the worl

I Admit to being a Sick Person, I Love Watching Klan Families Fight Among Themselves

Image
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart Let’s stop ignoring the truth: the “Republican Party” is in total disarray and fighting among themselves. This was inevitable. When your party’s leader is a mentally deranged malignant narcissist, and is constantly surrounded by chaos and desperation, the trickle-down theory applies. Republicans Are Deserting a Sinking Ship Every day I read about an increasing number of right-wing politicians who are quietly breaking away from Trump’s hold over them. As the base of the once Grand Old Party continues to decline, a growing number of fake Republicans are looking elsewhere for support. In every primary state, a percentage of Republican voters who chose Trump say that they will not vote for him in the general election. I doubt they will vote for Biden, but if they choose not to vote, they will be supporting President Biden’s reelection. No One On the Right Side of the Aisle is Qualified to Hold Any Office at Any Level The most recent squabble inside of

Who Can You Trust?

Image
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart   I may have been naïve. This baby boomer grew up trusting everyone older than me, especially those with authority and power. I firmly believed that our government placed the welfare of its people as priority number one. I believed the slogan on the side of police cars was sincere: “to Protect and to Serve.” When my priest gave his sermon, I trusted him with all my heart. I knew that my teachers, including the nuns, loved their jobs and would make my life better. I watched the evening news and believed every word. But things have changed over my 77 years. I no longer trust anyone who has power over me and those I love. Trust is earned and most of what I believed in my younger days no longer exists. No one in Washington can be trusted. Over the years I have less and less faith in Congress. Of the 13 presidents I remember, only five of them were competent and true patriots, and it may surprise you but Richard Nixon was one of them. His huge mistake was unforgivabl

America has Forgotten how to Care for Its People

Image
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart   If you are a working class American, the great majority, you know that the greatest President in history was undoubtedly Franklin Delano Roosevelt. His policies were focused on improving the lives of all Americans for 12 years. No other president has always placed people first. Over the last 78 years our government’s priorities have become corporate profits, and special interests who pay for the elections of our executive and legislative branches. You may not be aware of this fact, but there are less than a handful of lobbyists working for you and me in Washington. In the 21 st century, the super-rich have abandoned capitalism and now have complete control over our government. America has become a plutocracy. The quality of life for most Americans has declined thanks to “Greedflation,” growing racism, mass bigotry, proven by the enormous increase in hate crimes, misogyny, and a failure to care for our senior citizens. Most Americans have inadequate healthcare

Let’s Have One Final Look At the Failure of Our Government to Guarantee Free Healthcare for All

Image
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart   Every developed nation in the world offers 100 percent of their people free healthcare with the exception of the United States of America. This is an embarrassment for every politician who fallaciously claims that America is the greatest country in the world. Great countries place their people first. Our country places corporate profits ahead of 330 million men, women, and children. A report including 15 developed nations place the United States in 15 th place when quality of life is the topic. After the passage of “Obamacare” in March, 2010, the number of Americans without healthcare decreased. However, 27.2 million Americans remain uninsured. Not included in these statistics are millions of elderly men and women who have Medicare part A, but cannot afford Medicare part B. My wife and I are two of them. The statistics vary by region. For example, in Massachusetts, the number of uninsured is 2.5 percent, while in Texas, the number is 18 percent. The rate of u

If You Feel a Loss of Mental Acuity, You Must be Watching Television News

Image
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart   When I was much younger, I was an admirer of Edward R. Murrow, John Chancellor, Walter Cronkite, and other men who were respected and honest reporters. These men were legitimate journalists who offered the facts without inuendo, without personal opinion, or any intent related to financial gain. Today’s pretend journalists are paid millions of dollars and are required to report what television executives instruct them to tell their viewers. Like Fox News, all network broadcasts are more concerned about advertising revenue than the truth. I followed the 2016 campaign with a combination of fascination and fear. After the most disgusting and embarrassing primary season in history, our country was left with two options. Hillary Clinton was undeniably the most qualified presidential candidate in history. She remains a lifelong public servant who will be remembered by historians as a woman who worked to improve the lives of all Americans. Her opponent, Do

Today’s Commercial Airlines Charge Lots of Money to be Treated Like Animals

Image
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart   My wife and I refuse to fly on any commercial airline. The last time we flew together was in 1998. We traveled to Florida to celebrate our daughter’s 21 st birthday. On the way home we stopped in Denver to visit my brother. This experience, a combination of very bad weather, and the complete lack of customer service, combined with blatant lies from employees of United Airlines, was painful and unforgivable. We vowed never to fly on a commercial airline again. I wrote a letter to United’s vice-president of customer relations, explaining that I had been an employee of an airline between 1967 and 1976 and informed them that I would never again fly on their airline. I received a return letter containing an apology and two $100 vouchers for future air travel. I returned the vouchers with a short note informing them that I meant what I said and would never patronize their company again. In 2009 and 2010, I was employed by the 2010 Decennial Census and was
