  Beginning in 1956, 14 presidents have lived in the White House which I remember. After coming home from school, turning on our black and white television, and watching Dwight Eisenhower’s second presidential nomination, an interest in our nation’s political system began to grow in my young brain. Trump decided to march from the White House to St. John’s Church for the sole purpose of obtaining a photo op to distract his followers from his failing attempt to win reelection. To reach St. John’s Church, he had to walk through Lafayette Park. A crowd of protestors filled a large part of the park. Trump called in members of the National Guard to lead the procession, and armed them with rubber bullets and tear gas. His plan was successful and an embarrassment for all Americans.
