If You are not an Independent Voter, You are not a True American

Image
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart Answer this question for me: “why do political parties exist?” The only answer I have is to encourage hard-working men and women to donate money they cannot afford to waste, hoping to elect a man or woman they likely know nothing about. Voting is a right, not a privilege. However, with any right comes responsibility. It is our duty to know the position on the issues supported by every man or woman seeking our precious votes. Most voters fail this responsibility. Studies have revealed that most voters vote according to what they see on television. This is moronic. All political ads during a two-year-long campaign are composed of lies and misdirection. I trust no one. Therefore, I feel an obligation to learn the truth about every candidate. I am an Independent, and I take the right to vote very seriously. Want proof that Independent voters are the only ones who cherish the right to vote and accept the responsibilities attached to it? Look at these names: Trump, Mo...

Proud to be a Liberal: Number Five

Image
I am not certain that this is the fifth article I have written about why I am proud to be a liberal, or the fourth or the sixth. I only know that on occasion I find it necessary to explain how I learned right from wrong, and how I became aware that the past is only good for one thing: it is a place where the most important things I learned were from my mistakes, and the mistakes of my government.   As an original “baby boomer,” born in July of 1946, I began my life in an atmosphere of patriotism, and rebirth. The war to defeat fascism had been won, and America was changing quickly, attempting to leave the horrors of war behind us and move our nation forward with changes which no one could have imagined just a few years ago. Millions of women who had become workers in our factories in support of the need to create weapons of mass destruction stepped aside, allowing America’s returning heroes to secure employment in the private sector. Factories were re-tooled, manufacturing eve...

Nothing is More Important to America’s Future than an Informed Electorate

Image
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart We are responsible for one irrefutable fact: the government of the United States is the most incompetent and corrupt in the world. We the people, the voting public, without accurate information, and being led astray by the right-wing propaganda machine, FOX News, and other extremist fake news organizations, elected the worst of the worst: men and women who are woefully incompetent and have no loyalty to our nation and our people. WHEN THE END BEGAN In 2009 the Republican Party endorsed a policy which became its ultimate demise in 2017. In that fateful year, the Koch brothers, confirmed as the wealthiest billionaires in our nation behind Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, funded a group of incompetent men and women who promised to support every issue important to these anti-American billionaires. They called themselves the “TEA Party, and acronym for “taxed enough already,” a catchy name without substance or meaning. The truth is, Republican leadership h...

Some Statistics Which Might Surprise You

Image
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart   I have no doubt some of these statistics will surprise and even shock you. However, they are based on facts. The mainstream media, Fox News, and right-wing politicians will never tell you the truth. The truth would greatly harm those who call themselves “Republicans” today. Remember, billionaires control the right-wing, and money is the only thing of importance in 21 st century America. I believe that if most Americans were aware that 30 percent of all Americans reject organized religion today, it would change attitudes across our country about multiple issues, including abortion, and the rights of the LGBTQ community. That number is about 90,000,000 people. The most interesting part of this fact is that millennials and succeeding generations compose a large number of this statistic. With an average age of all Americans at 38.3 years of age, this is a significant fact. If women and younger Americans came to agreements on every important issue, they would ...
