Possibly the most tragic results of Trump and Musk’s treasonous actions over the last month is encouraging America’s people to forget about our beginnings. Our Founding Fathers were not perfect because no human being could ever achieve such a lofty goal. However, they were noble men who rejected tyranny and rule by a king and moved to the new land to create a new nation founded on individual freedom and human rights. Trump and Musk are attempting to eliminate these basic rights and shred the Constitution. After a great victory in the Revolutionary War, a small number of men gathered in Pennsylvania to participate in the Constitutional Convention in 1787. There were only 55 men in attendance and only 39 added their names to the Constitution in 1789. It is well-known by those of us who love history that these men were aware that what they had accomplished was far from perfect. The mistakes our Founding Fathers made at the end of the Constitutional Convention in 1789 are more numerous than you might believe. However, all of their errors can be credited to their naivete. They wrongfully assumed future leaders would possess the same integrity, dignity, principles, and morals which they shared. They failed to understand the weakness of most men and their desire for wealth and power at the expense of the people they were elected to represent and serve. Loud and angry debates were commonplace between the most and least populated regions and states. Hindsight is of no value, but it does reveal much of what has happened in Washington as our country entered the 21 st century, as a result of decisions made to appease smaller states. I can’t imagine the excitement Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Franklin, and the others felt as their dream had begun. The war with England was underway. The Revolutionary War began in Lexington and Concord in April of 1775, and would not end until September of 1783.
