Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart I used to be a big fan of ESPN. It was original, and some of its commentators were well-informed and entertaining. However, as professional sports have become more of a huge business than a form of entertainment, the quality of ESPN’s television personalities has greatly declined. As I was channel surfing one day, I stopped while a man by the name of Stephen A. Miller was ranting. And that’s all it was. I don’t remember what or who he was verbally assaulting, but he never stopped talking. I thought he would have made a big success as a Fox News personality. None of them know what they are talking about. Miller graduated from Duke University, with a degree in philosophy. This explains why he is always yapping, seldom listens, and obviously fails to research his material before he offers an opinion. Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart I have been debating with myself about one issue for 10 years. Can Trump read, or does he simply choose not to read? I have finally come to a conclusion. It’s a combination of both. Trump does know how to read, as proven by his dependence on teleprompters. However, he lacks the attention span needed to read the Presidents Daily Brief, and will never read the Constitution. I think back to the first year of his first illegitimate presidency. A meeting was scheduled between Trump and Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan. The subject was healthcare. As Ryan began to speak, Trump lumbered out of the room. Ryan could hear the television in the next room being turned on. Trump has the attention span of a feral cat. It’s a sad fact that he has never read the Constitution. If he had, he would not be wasting such a large amount of valuable time of multiple federal judges and his own stacked and corrupt Supreme Court. Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart The statistics about the homeless in America are totally inaccurate. The estimates are far below the facts. I know this because in the 2010 Census, I was in a unique position to learn facts about homelessness in America few others will ever know. I met weekly with members of the Reno Area Alliance for the Homeless. These kind and caring people know the truth and from them I learned the reality of why and how men, women, and families become homeless. I was surprised that a percentage of our nation’s homeless population choose to remain in their situations. I believe that most people think that housing, clothing, and healthy food are all these disenfranchised Americans need. I was invited into the shelters. I was impressed. It is clear that my city cares about all of its people. There are separate shelters for men and women, and family shelters for the growing number of men, women, and children who no longer have a permanent residence. I also toured “tent city.” I...

Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart This week I watched film from June 6, 1944, known as “D-Day.” This day marked the beginning of the end of WWII. As I watched these old, black and white films, I couldn’t help but wonder who was going to die in the war to remove fascism from the free world. I know that if Trump watched any of the broadcasts, he called them all “suckers and losers.” This was not the first time. In 2018, while in Paris to honor our fallen WWI soldiers at a cemetery outside of the City of Lights, he refused to attend the event, and was overheard calling them “suckers and losers.” I would expect nothing less from a man who read Hitler’s speeches before he went to sleep each night, and was himself a draft dodger.
