Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart On Friday evening Trump was attending a conservative Christian event. To no one’s surprise, he pandered to Christians, although his only “god” is money. But it’s what he said that revealed his fear of losing in November, and the fact that what is left of his mind is in serious decline. Trump demonstrated his alliance with Project 2025 which offers a plan to make Christianity the only viable religion in America. He hinted at another plan to establish himself as a fascist Fuhrer. "Christians get out and vote. Just this time," he urged. "You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years. You know what? It'll be fixed. It'll be fine. You won't have to vote anymore my beautiful Christians." If any of this sounds “presidential to you,” I would literally have my head examined. Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart Our Founding Fathers were all wealthy businessmen, living lives of luxury and privilege in England. However, they shared ideals which no longer fit with the ambitions of King George III. When the King declared the Anglican Church as the British Empire’s one, true religion, this was more than they could accept. None of them had ever believed that a Monarchy was acceptable: they believed that the people should have representation for what happened in their country. After a bloody and long Revolutionary War from 1775 until 1783, it was time to create the government of their dreams, The Constitutional Convention began in 1787, and lasted until 1789 with the ratification of the Constitution. Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart   At the ripe old age of 77, I feel lucky to have witnessed a few great leaders in America. In 1956 I watched “Ike’s” second nomination at the Republican National Convention. Although I do not consider Eisenhower a “great president,” he did have some impressive accomplishments, including the interstate highway system. He was a loyal American who loved his country. I was just beginning high school when John Fitzgerald Kennedy was elected as our 35 th president. He was murdered on November 22, 1963 when I was a senior. He was the last great leader in my lifetime. My generation was devastated when he was taken from us too soon. My senior class dedicated a bust of President Kennedy to our Senior Court when we graduated. There were other men and women who were impressive and accomplished great things, including Richard Nixon, the former Governor of Texas, Ann Richards, Senators Ted Kennedy and John McCain, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama.
