Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart Two television broadcasts I never missed were “60 Minutes,” and “CBS Sunday Morning.” The Sunday morning broadcast is composed of positive stories about real people and a perfect way to begin a Sunday morning. “60 Minutes” was the only news show I watched because it was a hard-hitting broadcast which exposed the truth about people and things happening in our country and around the world. However, Mike Wallace is turning over in his grave today. My mother, brother, and I watched the CBS evening news every evening in the 1950s and 1960s. Walter Cronkinte informed us of the most important events in just 30 minutes. He was rightfully known as the “most trusted man in America.” The new editor-in-chief of CBS News is a woman by the name of Bari Weiss. She constantly reveals her position as a Trump sycophant as she heavily edits every major production from her network. I am a pacifist, although in today’s America, it’s very hard to keep vile and destructive emotions subdued. I am fully aware that violence is never the answer. No war has ever been “won,” and no disagreement is ever resolved with a fist. Leaders must lead by actions, by example. Words are simply breaths making a sound as they exit the mouth. Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart Most of you know that on November 9, 2016, I promised myself to never watch television news again, and to fact check every article I read. I have kept that promise. My reason for this decision was based on the 2016 campaign. There were many lies about Hillary Clinton posted on social media and the mainstream media. However, the most grievous crime against American voters was posting headlines filled with ambiguity and half-truths. As a political writer, I understand the importance of titles to get the attention of readers. However, legitimate journalists continue their refusal to do the right thing and use words which are definitive and their meaning undeniable when writing about the worst president in history. Not once in November or December 2020 did I read a headline which told the absolute truth. The Department of Justice and the Attorney General are no longer independent from the Executive Branch and serve their Fuhrer, not the 340 million people who are the United States of America.
