Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart There are at least two Americas. One is composed of about 95 percent of citizens who work hard to make better lives for themselves, their children, and their grandchildren. My America is grateful for its diversity. We are a nation of immigrants. We are not perfect, but most try to be. We never ask for much, and we usually get less. The other America is occupied by men and women who came into great wealth at birth. Some obtained great wealth when offered “once in a lifetime opportunities” not available to the majority. As a small child, I never knew that I was poor. I remember my childhood as “great.” I didn’t have money in my pockets, I had “treasures” which were worth little or nothing but had meaning for me. I look back on my younger years and have mostly fond memories, although I understood the struggle my mother faced every day, worrying that her children might not have enough to eat. Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart DOGE was another stupid idea which became a reality because an idiot is allowed to violate our nation’s White House. Trump claimed its purpose was to reduce the deficit by trillions of dollars. However, this idea failed. What actually happened made the United States a more dangerous place to live. Men and women who performed jobs necessary to ensure safety and security in America were reduced and dissolved. Domestic terrorism, the result of Trump and his fascist party’s failure to lessen gun violence in America, has been the greatest danger to the American people for a decade. Trump sanctioned DOGE’s firing of healthcare officials, research scientists, men and women who protected our people from government corruption, and those who kept our commercial airlines safe.
