Is it Mandatory to be Stupid when Choosing Politics as a Profession?

Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart

After reading comments made by several politicians this week, including the gibberish from Trump, I am convinced that one of the prime attributes needed to become a professional politician is abject stupidity.

Much has been made of South Dakota,s big mistake, Kristi Noem, and it is definitely justified. Bragging about killing a puppy, a goat, and three horses is ludicrous. Just as brazen and dishonest is claiming to have met a world leader you never came in contact with. However, since 2015 I have read many moronic statements than I ever believed possible.

Take a look at these quotes. All of them took place in the month of December, 2015. Each of them came from a man or woman calling themselves a “Republican.”

LIKE THEIR FUHRER, THEY MAKE NO SENSE

"When a physician removes a child from a woman, that is the largest organ in a body. That's a big thing. That's a big surgery. You don't have any other organs in your body that are bigger than that." Alabama state Rep. Mary Sue McClurkin (R), defending her sweeping anti-abortion bill.

"Some people could make the argument that a lot of people like being in abusive relationships. It's a love-hate relationship. It's very, very common for people to stick around with somebody they love who also abuses him or her." New Hampshire state Rep. Mark Warden (R), during a debate on a bill to reduce the penalty for simple assault.

"To redefine marriage is discriminatory towards those who hold the sincerely held religious belief that it is a sacred institution between a man & a woman." Illinois state Sen. Kyle McCarter (R), in response to the state Senate approving same-sex marriage in Illinois.

There are seven more in the attached article. Remember, these were in just one month. I have no doubt there were many more, but no one bothered to record them.

TRUMP PROVED THAT IGNRORANCE AND STUPIDITY ARE ACCEPTABLE IF YOU CLAIM TO BE A REPUBLICAN

Every time Trump opens his mouth, he is an embarrassment to himself and to our country. Since 2015 he has displayed a lack of intelligence not seen by a candidate for the Executive Branch since Dan Quayle.

It’s true that George W. Bush made us laugh with his many “Bushisms,” but at least I knew what he was talking about most of the time.

However, Republican voters choose to be ignorant, and will vote for anyone who has an “R” next to their name. They waste votes every two years.

Be an informed voter and vote for the candidate whose position on the issues are closest to your own. Refuse to vote for a party.
