Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart The cornerstones of the United States of America are Freedom, and Equality. I was raised to believe that no man is ‘greater’ than another, regardless of his power, wealth, or position. In 79 years, I have learned this to be true. The truth is, the rich, powerful, and famous are often inferior when measured by their low levels of compassion, understanding, and concern for the less fortunate. However, in 2025, the promises guaranteed by the Constitution have been locked away in a dark place, waiting to be shredded or burned until nothing is left but ash. I have not watched television news since November 9, 2016, with two exceptions. First, I watch “CBS Sunday Morning.” It is a show about positive events and people in America and recharges my depleted battery as I write about the worst of our nation over the past week. Malignant Narcissism: “Individuals with this condition exhibit a grandiose sense of self-importance, a need for admiration, and a lack of empathy, similar to other forms of narcissism. However, malignant narcissism also involves a tendency towards manipulation, aggression, and a disregard for the well-being of others, sometimes even taking pleasure in causing them harm.” This is most certainly an accurate description of your illegitimate dictator. It also explains why his heroes are the world’s most infamous villains, Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, and his puppeteer, Vladimir Putin. It all makes sense when Trump’s history is examined. I feel a great sadness that most of what I offer my readers is about the men who intentionally changed the direction, the future, of a nation called the United States of America, not for good, but for the worse. I learned what patriotism meant when I began attending elementary school in 1952. I was one of the nerds who loved school. Every day at St. Mark’s Elementary School began with me and my fellow students standing, facing the American flag in the corner of the room, and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. My younger brother and I were raised by a single mother. We were poor, but we didn’t know it because we were happy.
