How do I Feel About the End of the Supreme Court?

Barack Obama was a good presdident who could have been great if he had not been forced to fight with Moscow Mitch McConnell’s creation known as “the party of no.” However, the truth is that our country has not been blessed with more than a handful of great presidents. The most recent outstanding American leader was murdered on November 22, 1963, during my senior year in high school.

Our nation’s legislative branch is both the most dysfunctional and the most corrupt in the world. The level of incompetence and in many cases self-importance and complete apathy towards the American people has reached beyond the imagination. There is no leadership on the right side of the aisle, and on the left, it is very limited and unimpressive. Corruption is everywhere. Those of us who write about Washington are aware of constant criminal activity, and an atmosphere of secrecy to prevent the American people from gaining knowledge of these facts. If you hear the words, “for reasons of national security,” you know that someone has committed a crime or is guilty of ethics violations. Fact: not one positive action has originated from the right side of the aisle in more than 40 years.

This brings me to the Judicial branch.

My one last hope for my country’s future was the Supreme Court. The greatest concern of our Founding Fathers during the Constitutional Convention, 1787-1789, was protecting our nation from domination by one political party in complete control of the Executive and Legislative branches. Their plan was to create the Supreme Court and guarantee that it would be apolitical. However, their ideas have proven to be their greatest failure.

The Court’s only purpose is to hear arguments from petitioners related to the Constitutionality of issues brought before the Court. Our Founding Fathers believed that after hearings in the Senate, and eventually confirmation by the majority, justices should receive lifetime appointments, preventing loyalty to a single political party. We are aware today that this was a huge mistake.

Throughout my 77 years the Court became more and more politicized. Between 2017 and 2020, Moscow Mitch McConnell, in collusion with the Federalist Society, convinced Trump to nominate three new justices. It was clear from day one that these two men and one woman were unqualified to sit on our nation’s highest court. Their only purpose was to fulfill the goal of right-wing extremists and overturn the nearly 50-year-old decision by a less-biased Court known as Roe v Wade. Moscow Mitch decided to break his own rule and rushed the confirmation of the worst of the worst, Amy Coney Barrett after the death of the legendary Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Today the Court is heavily biased having six loyal Republicans sitting on the bench, and three more progressive women fighting for the rights of all Americans.

On June 24, 2022, this extremely biased Court obeyed the orders of Moscow Mitch and overturned the 49-year-old decision. This day will be remembered as one of the darkest days in American history. The Supreme Court of the United States is as corrupt as the Legislative branch and cannot be respected or trusted. Removing the Constitutional rights of women to make decisions about their own physical and mental health is an abomination.

“People just didn’t recognize who the justices were,” Barrett said. “I think that’s better. I don’t think justices should be recognizable in that sense.”

But she said that critique of the court is nothing new.

“Justices and all judges are public figures and public criticism comes with the job,” Barrett said. “I’m still kind of new at this.”

Barrett is obviously not a student of history. Never has the Supreme Court received this level of anger and criticism. If the Court cannot be trusted, who can we trust.
