I Turned on my Computer This Morning and Asked Myself, “What Country am I Living In?”
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
Where am I? What country am I living in? I know it’s not
America, at least not the America in which I was raised or the America I
remember 40-50 years ago. Never would a man or woman become or president if he
or she was not an American. If where I’m living is the United States, why is
our government allowing corporations to rape us financially. What’s with the
growing interest in fascism? Why is our government ignoring the escalating
danger of domestic terrorism. The only things I recognize from my younger years
are pervasive racism, homophobia, anti-Semitism, and extreme sexism.
Here are three headlines which made me shake my head and say
to myself, “what the hell?”
[FBI Whistleblower: Giuliani was made an Asset by Russian
Intelligence
Trump - Russian Spy
Biden arrives in Florida to survey Idalia's toll from the
sky and ground. DeSantis won't see him]
The first is no surprise. Putin’s presence was constant in
Trump’s world from June of 2015 when he declared his candidacy, and continues
today verified by Trump’s support of Putin’s illegal and immoral invasion of
Ukraine.
Like Trump, Giuliani destroyed his reputation and any
respect he might have had between 2017 and today.
“According to Buma’s account, Giuliani was used as an asset
by a Ukrainian oligarch tied to Russian intelligence and other Russian
operatives for a disinformation operation that aimed to discredit Joe Biden and
boost Trump in the 2020 presidential race.” (Jonathan Buma is an FBI agent who
was investigating Giuliani.)
The truth is that Trump’s administration was filled with men
and women who had close ties to Russia. Robert Mercer, who financed Trump’s campaign
when it was broke in August, 2016, was known to have close relationships with
Russian Oligarchs. It was Mercer to selected Steve Bannon as Trump’s campaign
manager. Trump’s first Secretary of State was Rex Tillerson. Tillerson was
involved in Putin’s oil business and was a close personal friend. Wilbur Ross, Secretary
of Commerce, was the former head of the Bank of Cyprus, owned by Putin. “Moscow”
Mitch McConnell earned his nickname when it was discovered that he had received
campaign contributions from Russian oligarchs. He added more suspicion when he
refused to allow a vote in the Senate on funding to prevent Russia from
interfering in additional elections.
The second article lists many lies and many facts about
Trump’s connection to Putin. I have written multiple times that although Trump claimed
in 2016 that he had never met Putin, in 1987 Trump and then wife, Ivana,
traveled to Moscow after accepting an invitation from the KGB. Putin was one of
the KGB’s highest-ranking officers.
His infamous trip to the Russian capital in 2013 with the
Miss Universe Pageant was composed of lies. An investigation revealed that
Trump’s account was nothing but lies. The Christopher Steele dossier has been
proven to be accurate.
We know that Trump and Putin exchanged many phone calls
during his single term in the White House. Your illegitimate president offered
praise for Putin constantly. It is reasonable to believe that Trump has been an
asset for Putin for 36 years.
The third article which upset me greatly was about the worst
Governor in American history, Ron DeSantis.
President Biden made a visit to Florida Saturday to inspect
the damage caused by hurricane Idalia. Showing great disrespect for the Office
of the President, DeSantis refused to meet with our nation’s leader. DeSantis
wants to be your president in 2024. Ain’t that a hoot?
All of this proves one fact: our government is broken beyond
repair. 545 men and women in the executive, legislative, and judicial branches
are taking money from taxpayers and doing absolutely nothing of value. “Nice
work if you can get it!”
When I was a much younger man my image of America included
patriotism, hope, and pride. I was loyal to the most respected nation in the
world. I had hope. Although we had problems, we also had great leaders who
chose to do the right thing. I was proud because most Americans were displaying
compassion and understanding for their fellow Americans. None of this exists
today.
We are a divided nation and I am not sure that we can be
healed. Politicians have always been the worst people in America, and in the 21st
century they are intentionally dividing us to win votes. “Divide and conquer”
is the motto of the once Grand Old Party.
No one, not a single legitimate journalist has the courage
to tell the American people that the United States of America is in danger of
becoming nothing but a treasured memory. Every “Republican” in Washington favors
the end of democracy and the establishment of a fascist regime to protect the
plutocracy which exists today.
On November 5, 2024, you have a choice: save our nation or
submit to the autocrats on the right side of the aisle.
