Just One Positive and Inspiring Story, More to Come

I have been writing about events in our nation for 10 years. Most of it is related to politics, and therefore is mostly negative and disturbing because it’s true. Today, September 6, 2023, I am hoping to write stories about the good in our world, especially in America. Here’s to new beginnings and better sleep.

The fires in Maui were more devastating than the pictures on television. I have a niece living there and the truth is many lives are changed forever.

Some relief to residents of one of the most beautiful places in the world has been offered by Oprah Winfrey and Dwayne Johnson.

Immediately after the devastating fires were controlled, donations from people around the world began pouring in. Now the most famous woman in the world, Oprah Winfrey, and one of the most popular actors in the world, Dwayne Johnson, are offering assistance for every resident on the island. Together they have created a fund for anyone who was injured or lost their property. They are donating $1,200 per month to each of the victims for an indefinite period of time.

So far, the duo has donated $10 million to “The People’s Fund of Maui.”

“I have been meeting with people throughout the community that were impacted by the fires over the last few weeks, asking what they most needed and how I could be of service,” Ms. Winfrey said in a press release.

“The main thing I’ve been hearing is their concern about how to move forward under the immense financial burden. The community has come together in so many wonderful ways, and my intention is to support those impacted as they determine what rebuilding looks like for them.”

Our nation must change and become a country which places its people first: all of us. Corporations, our military, and the super-rich can always care for themselves. We have about 165 million Americans who struggle below the poverty line or in the low-income bracket. Our politicians claim that we are the “richest country in the world.” If that is true the statistic I offered you is a crime.

We can do better. There are good things being done by good people every day, and we need to hear more about them. History proves that change is good for America and the positive actions outweigh the negative. Unfortunately, we do not hear enough about them from the media.

I hope to change all that, or at least support and reveal the efforts of those who often remain unheralded. Unlike politicians, the best of us would rather remain anonymous and never brag about the good they do every day. This is the America I believed in throughout my younger years and I want it back.
