If You are One of the 68 Percent of all Evangelicals Who Support Trump, You are not a Christian
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
Only men and women who follow the teachings of Jesus Christ
in the New Testament can call themselves “Christians.” Donald Trump has never
set foot in the church he claims to support, according to the church’s pastor.
Trump is a confirmed and convicted sexual predator, a lifetime criminal, tells
lies constantly, and judges everyone crudely while refusing to admit his many
mistakes. Anyone who supports this bitter, angry, obese, old white man who
spreads anger, hatred, and intitiates violence cannot claim to follow the
instructions of the Christ. The majority of Evangelicals are hypocrites.
Let me state a personal opinion. Religious interference in
America’s government is the greatest danger to our nation’s future. Religious extremism
has been the force behind wars and the deaths of millions of innocent men,
women, and children for centuries. There is no justification for allowing
religions to become a factor in how America is governed. We are not a religious
nation. Religion is a personal choice and the latest survey shows that about
one-third of all Americans now reject all organized religions.
The ”Christian Religious Right” began during the Reagan
administration. Reagan openly supported Christianity while denying the right
and validity of others who practice other faiths or none at all. The CRR is
dominated by Evangelical leaders today. This is a sad statement for all true
Christians.
I was raised a Catholic. However, at age 16, I began to ask
serious questions and never received a direct response. My greatest concern was
about the tragedies which continue on the continent of Africa today. The only
answers I received were, “God works in mysterious ways,” or “God has a plan.”
Then they taught us the “Eight Beatitudes.”
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven. (Verse 3)
Blessed are the meek: for they shall possess the land.
(Verse 4)
Blessed are they who mourn: for they shall be comforted.
(Verse 5)
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for
they shall have their fill. (Verse 6)
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
(Verse 7)
Blessed are the clean of heart: for they shall see God.
(Verse 8)
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the
children of God. (Verse 9)
Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice' sake,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Verse 10)
It was difficult for me to find any iota of truth in any of
these promises from the leaders of the Catholic Church.
However, I believe that the New Testament of the Bible
containing the teachings of Jusus Christ who was either a great prophet or the
Son of God, depending on your personal beliefs, are the greatest path to living
a spiritual life. They teach acceptance, compassion, humility, and the simple
fact that all humans are the same and at their core want the same things from
life.
Evangelicals use the Old Testament to support their
anti-Christian teachings. The LGBTQ community is not evil. Women must have the
right to care for their own physical and mental health. The Muslim Quran
teaches the same values as the New Testament of the Bible. Extremism is evil, whether
these evil men and women claim to be Muslims, or Christians.
As I was growing up in the 1950s and 1960s, I was taught to
believe that religion is a personal choice, and that I was to respect the
beliefs of my Jewish, Buddhist, and Muslim friends and acquaintances.
Politics and religion have never been compatible. If policy
is founded on religious doctrine, it will not apply to a large number of the
population. I am one of more than 90 million Americans who reject all organized
religion. Any law or policy founded on a single religious belief would adversely
affect me and my fellow agnostics and atheists.
Finally, Trump is a fascist who believes that money is his
only “god.” He does not care about anyone or anything other than himself and
his personal ambition and need for relevance. He is the worst man in the world.
Vote for anybody but Trump.
