Ravens Win Against 49ers, Rams Win Against New Orleans, Thursdays Victory for Ravens over Bengals

Over the last 10-15 years, NFL officials have decided the outcome of many games. Bad calls and no calls all too often decide the outcome of games critical to the success of teams and players in a single season. I offer you a few examples.

In 2013, Super Bowl XLVII was a contest between the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers. Near the end of the game, 49er quarterback Colin Kaepernick moved his team in position to win the game. He threw a pass to a receiver standing in the end zone. A Raven defender clearly interfered with the receiver’s opportunity to catch the ball. However, although an official was just a few feet away, no call was made. The Ravens were given a victory. Not only did this failure prevent a Super Bowl win for San Francisco, it prevented Kaepernick from becoming a Super Bowl winning quarterback. A few years later, he was blackballed from the NFL.

In January of 2019, the NFC Championship Game was between the Los Angeles Rams and the New Orleans Saints. With the game nearing an end, Drew Brees launched a long pass down the sideline. His receiver was waiting for the ball, and with the cameras focused on what could be a step to a score, winning a trip to the Super Bowl, a Ram defender slammed into his chest and put him on his back off of the field of play. There was no call although everyone witnessed blatant defensive pass interference. The Rams won the “big game” two weeks later.

Last evening, Thursday, November 16, 2023, the Cincinnati Bengals were in Baltimore to play the Ravens. It was a close game until Bengals’ quarterback, Joe Burrow was injured and left the field not to return. However, when a Cincinnati defender was called for pass interference, the Ravens scored a touchdown and never looked back. A replay revealed that there was no interference, not even close.

There is no question about the fact that NFL officials are the worst in the world. Instant replay is not applicable to certain calls, the same calls I just discussed are among them. The league office protects its own. Sadly, this fact has cost teams games including the biggest game in the world: the Super Bowl.
