An American President Must Be a Patriotic American, not a Fascist

Okay, you all know I am old and my memories are very important to me, both the good ones and the bad ones. However, when they are related to politics and our government in Washington, they are crystal clear and 100 percent accurate..

I could not legally vote until 1967: The 26th amendment, giving 18-year-olds the right to vote, was not passed until Richard Nixon was our president in 1971. However, my interest in what is clearly the ugliest profession in the 21st century, politics, began in 1956.

I turned on the television one day in 1956, and on the screen was the Republican National Convention when Dwight D. Eisenhower received his party’s nomination for a second term as our president. I was fascinated as the theme of patriotism and the celebration of our First Amendment right to vote filled the hall. When President Eisenhower accepted the nomination, I had no doubt that he loved our nation and its people, and his intention was to serve all Americans for four more years.

I was in my first year of high school in 1960 when one of our country’s few “great presidents,” John Fitzgerald Kennedy, was elected. The speech he gave at his inauguration was inspiring, to say the least, and made me proud to be a citizen of the United States of America. He became our nation’s youngest president and was admired by my generation for his courage, intelligence, and patriotism. This great American was murdered on November 22, 1963 when I was a senior. His untimely death left a hole in my very soul which lasted for many months to come.

Lyndon Johnson was a conundrum. His escalation of the illegal, controversial, and immoral war in Vietnam incurred the wrath of nearly every young American. However, it was President Johnson who signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. He had the courage to do the right thing for millions of oppressed Americans.

Contrary to popular belief, Richard Nixon was not our worst president. He is the last Republican president to accomplish great things for all Americans. His crime was serious, but take the time to read his successes and you will learn that he loved his country.

Geral Ford was nothing but a “seat filler.” He loved his country but was unqualified to lead our nation.

No man has displayed a greater love for the American people than Jimmy Carter. His policies were controversial, but we must remember that he healed our nation after the shame caused by President Nixon’s scandal.

Ronald Reagan was a con man. Those of us who voted for him were fooled by his rhetoric. During the first months of his administration he proved himself the enemy of working-class Americans, women, and people of color. His religious extremism began the separation of our nation’s people and ending policies of separation of Church and State. A lot of his love for his country was selfish, but he was an “American president.”

George H.W. Bush made the decision to continue Reagan’s policies and prevented his own reelection. However, no one would ever doubt his patriotism.

Economically, William Jefferson Clinton was our most successful president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He left office in 2001 with the gift of a surplus in the national treasury. His morals were questionable, but he was a very good American president.

I rate George W. Bush the second worst president in history. It was his decision to place our nation in two illegal and unwinnable wars after failing to protect our nation from the cowardly attacks on September 11, 2001. His failed fiscal policies nearly caused another depression. However, he was a patriot who was misguided by his staff and supporters. He was woefully unqualified to lead our nation.

Barack Obama’s love for all Americans and what our country stands for was unquestioned. His accomplishments served all Americans although he faced Moscow Mitch McConnell’s obstructionist “party of no” for eight years. In 2016, I, like millions of others, wished that there were no term limits for holding the title of President of the United States. After his successor took office on January 20, 2017, we knew that if our wishes had come true, our nation would not be in the worst of times today.

Donald John Trump was and never would be my “president.” Two facts explain why.

First, his victory in the Electoral College was illegitimate. As he claimed, “the election was fixed,” but fixed in his favor. Vladimir Putin did not accomplish his goal to get Trump elected alone. He had help from then FBI Director James Comey, Moscow Mitch McConnell, and the mainstream media. Secondly, Trump proved during the campaign that he is not an American. During his inauguration speech he described our country as evil, corrupt, and a nation of extremists. After establishing residence in the White House, he called it a “slum” among other things. Not enough gold and revolting décor for his lack of good taste.

Throughout his illegitimate presidency he proved that his loyalty is to Putin and other dictators, not to the American people. For four years he used his position for personal gain. He cost taxpayers millions of dollars every month, allowing him to live the life of an actual billionaire. He violated the Emoluments Clause daily as he engaged in business ventures with the leaders of foreign nations.

However, it was his treasonous action on January 6, 2021, and the theft of national secrets which he lied about to the FBI which proved his lack of loyalty to this country. He was impeached twice, but never received a fair trial in the Senate. His failure to prevent deaths from the pandemic displayed a complete lack of concern for the duties required of a president. He, alone, is directly responsible for a percentage of the more than one-million lives lost as he told us, “it will just go away.” Time and time again he proved that he is the leader of the Neo-Nazi movement in our nation.

Fortunately, in 2020 he was soundly defeated by President Joe Biden in an election described as the “most honest and fair in history” by Trump’s own Election Czar.

Anyone who votes for Trump in 2024 is a fool and not a loyal and patriotic American.
