House “Republicans” Prove that They are a Bad Joke, and Admit that the Once Grand Old Party is No More
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
This sad but laughable saga began in January of 2023.
Republicans had won a slim margin in the House of Representatives and would
therefore be choosing a Speaker. Without a Speaker, it is illegal for the House
to conduct any of our nation’s business.
It was no secret during the years when Nancy Pelosi held the
gavel that California Representative, Kevin McCarthy, envied her position as
the Speaker. He made it clear that he would do anything to become Speaker of
the House of Representatives.
McCarthy Remains Loyal to Trump, not to his Country
It is also no secret that McCarthy was a Trump lacky. He was
one of the Republicans who maintained phone contact with America’s biggest
traitor throughout the three-hour insurrection on January 6, 2021.
However, for the fascist members of the Freedom Caucus, he
was considered a moderate: his beliefs and policies were not far enough to the
right.
Until 2023, Only a Single Vote was Needed to Choose the
Speaker
When the vote was taken to select a new, Republican Speaker,
McCarthy was far short of the number needed to attain his lifelong dream. He
was forced to negotiate with members of the fascist Freedom Caucus to obtain
the votes he desperately needed.
However, McCarthy was unable to secure the number needed until
15 separate votes had been taken. During that time, the desperate McCarthy
surrendered virtually all of his powers to Jim Jordan, Steve Scalise, Matt
Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Green, Lauren Boebert and others who sought control of
the House.
One of the powers he gave away allowed a single member of
the House to challenge his position and remove the gavel from his hands. Matt
Gaetz did just that and on October 3, 2023, McCarthy became the first Speaker
in history to be removed from his position, and by his own party.
His only sin, according to the Freedom Caucus? He dared to
work with Democrats to secure a deal which would prevent a government shutdown.
No One Wanted the Job
Following McCarthy’s removal, several right-wing extremists
were nominated or suggested for a position none of them wanted. Eventually an
unknown religious extremist and Trump stooge, Mike Johnson, was chosen to put
the House back to work. However, this also failed. The “do nothing congress”
continued to place reelection efforts priority number one and the people of our
nation were ignored.
It is Possible that a Second Speaker Will be Removed from
Office in Less than Two Years
“Republicans” are admitting that it is extremely possible that
Johnson will be removed soon. Johnson’s sin was to vocally support aid for
Ukraine which is struggling to fight against the illegal and immoral invasion
of Russian President, Vladimir Putin. Most Freedom Caucus members support Putin,
not Ukraine.
However, it appears that Democrats may join in defense of
Mike Johnson, fearing that if another Speaker is removed, the House will remain
dysfunctional.
In 2016 Republican Candidates Were Known as “the Clown Car”
How stupid are right-wing politicians? The answer is “even dumber
than their Fuhrer, Donald Trump.” If we look back at the 17 Republican
candidates in 2016, one fact stands apart from the rest. They became known as “the
clown car,” and Trump was depicted as the driver. Out of 17 possibilities only
one man was qualified: John Kasich, the former Governor of Ohio.
Naturally, ignorant Republican voters chose the worst
candidate possible: Donald John Trump.
RIP Party of Lincoln: we miss you.
