Republicans Before November 8, 2016 and Now

Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart

Prior to the November 8, 2016 election, most Republicans despised Trump. Today those same men and women kiss his huge derriere and beg for his support. Most fake Republicans are desperate for votes.

HYPOCRISY

A couple of days ago I heard two, old, white Republicans spewing their loyalty to the worst president in history.

“Trump could stand on the White House steps and shoot someone and I would still support him.” (All crimes are now acceptable within the Republican Party).

“Trump says he wants to be a dictator. I think that’s a good idea. We need a dictator today.” (Obviously not an American citizen).

I wonder what they were saying in 2016.

BEFORE THE ELECTION

"I think a campaign bears responsibility for creating an environment," Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said at the time. "When a candidate urges supporters to engage in physical violence, to punch people in the face, the predictable consequence of that is that it escalates.”

Marco Rubio: "There’s only one presidential candidate who has violence at their events,” Rubio said. He warned that “words have consequences” and Trump was responsible for his supporters’ behavior.

Illinois Sen. Mark Kirk called Trump a "malignant clown — unprepared and unfit to be president of the United States."

Utah Sen. Mike Lee, who had already indicated he did not support Trump, dismissed him as "the distraction."

Moscow Mitch McConnell: “He needs someone highly experienced and very knowledgeable because it’s pretty obvious he doesn’t know a lot about the issues,” McConnell said of a running mate for the mogul.

He had this to say after the January 6 failed coup. “The mob was fed lies. They were provoked by the president and other powerful people.”

In his usual hypocritical style, Moscow Mitch endorsed him again this week.

Comments like these were commonplace in 2016, until, with the assistance of Vladimir Putin, James Comey, and the mainstream media, he was gifted the Electoral College. Today they all endorse him although he attempted to divide and destroy our nation for all four years between 2017 and 2021.

THOSE WHO PANDER FOR PERSONAL GAIN CANNOT BE TRUSTED

Recent events prove that the Party of Lincoln is as dead as our 16th President. Trump owns this current group of right-wing extremists, which should adopt a name applicable to their beliefs: “The American Fascist Party.”

FOLLOWING HITLER’S PLAYBOOK

Over the last few days he took complete control of the RNC. Another act of nepotism, and one of his most loyal supporters are co-chairs of the RNC. Lara Trump and Michael Whatley began by firing about 60 employees, many who had been employed by the RNC for years. It is clear that their main purpose is to guarantee that the majority of funding ends up in Trump’s bank account.

It is clear that Trump has been consolidating all power over the right-wing, following Hitler’s playbook exactly.

Insiders within the former GOP claim that in private the majority of those who call themselves “Republicans” hate Trump. I think they’re full of s**t. Either way, they cannot be trusted. Hypocrisy is a greater sin than habitual lying.
