What This Would Have Looked Like 40 Years Ago

What will happen tomorrow in a courtroom would have had a far different response 40-60 years ago.

In 1960 John F. Kennedy faced the stigma of being a member of the Catholic Church. This single issue made the general election a much closer race than it should have been.

In 1988, after four years of Ronald Reagan’s wars on the working class, minorities, and women, along with a failed fiscal policy which placed our nation deeply in debt, a handsome and popular senator from Colorado was poised to defeat George H. W. Bush and become our nation’s 41st president.

However, when it was discovered that Gary Hart had a mistress, by the name of Donna Rice, he dropped out of the race. He reentered but when he only received four percent of the vote in New Hampshire, he permanently ended his campaign.

In 1992 Republicans discovered an alleged affair between the Democratic nominee, Bill Clinton, and Gennifer Flowers.

The election became a contest between Reagan’s vice-president who continued his boss’s failed fiscal policy and crippled our economy with additional debt, and the former Governor of Arkansas who was accused of conducting an illicit affair.

When the votes were counted, it was clear that voters were more concerned with the failures of Republican presidents over the last 12 years.

The “Party of Family Values” Was a Ruse

We move forward to 2015. An old, failed businessman, without any experience at any level of government announced his intention to win the Republican Presidential Nomination in 2016. This happened in New York City in June of 2015.

As the campaign moved on, we learned more about Donald Trump. He was more than just another obese, old, white man who sought fame and power. Accusations about his controversial business dealings, sexual liaisons, and possible collusion with Russian President, Vladimir Putin, filled the headlines.

Trump was married to his third wife. He was accused of domestic violence by his first wife during their contentious divorce.

With just weeks remaining before the election, “Access Hollywood” released a video in which the Republican nominee admitted to being a sexual predator. This appeared to confirm the allegations of sexual assault by 25 women.

In October, a meeting in the Oval Office confirmed that Putin was indeed interfering in our election. However, our nation’s leaders refused to offer this information to the American people. On November 8, 2016, Trump won a slim margin in the Electoral College, losing the only vote which should matter, the popular vote of the American people.

Trump was soundly defeated by President Joe Biden in 2020. He began repeating his biggest lie, baselessly claiming that the election was rigged, as it had been in 2016 in his favor.

He is running for the presidency again. However, tomorrow he will be in a courtroom, charged with lying about paying hush money to an adult film star, Stormy Daniels. This alone would have made him ineligible 30-40 years ago.

There’s More, Much, Much More

While still in office, and although he was warned by our nation’s top health officials, he ignored the threat of a pandemic, telling the American people that “it would just go away.” The result was the loss of more than one million American lives, and placing our country in a near depression.

Also, while he continued to defile our White House, he planned, organized, and executed an attempted coup on January 6, 2021.

On the day he was evicted, Trump stole multiple boxes of national secrets from the White House. When classified documents were reported as missing, the FBI investigated. Trump admitted to possession of the stolen documents and promised to return them.

It was later discovered that he lied: he only returned a small amount of the classified material.

A subsequent search of his billionaire’s playpen, Mar-a-Lago discovered boxes hidden in several areas of the garish resort, including a bathroom.

Lying to the FBI is a federal crime.

This is Hard to Write

There is no way anyone could have made up this story. It is unbelievable that anyone who committed treason against his country, intentionally divided our nation, and colluded with a foreign president to win an election, is allowed to be a candidate for our nation’s highest office.

Think before you vote.
