How Dumb and Incompetent is the State Government of Texas?

Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart

It must be a disease which only affects red states. Extreme stupidity. I call it “chronic conservatism,” which removes both the ability to think clearly, and any concern for the people of their states.

In February of 2021, while the people of Texas were suffering from a devastating cold front, and many thousands were without power to heat their homes, Senator Ted Cruz displayed a level of incompetence combined with complete apathy for the men, women, and children he represented by leaving the state, and flying to Cancun, Mexico. This earned him the justifiable nickname of “Cancun Cruz.”

Last Friday, Governor Greg Abbott left the United States. He flew to Asia to participate in a discussion about increasing tourism. He was aware that it was likely that Hurricane Beryl would devastate towns and cities close to the Gulf of Mexico, but there was a big party to attend in Tokyo. He left his Lieutenant Governor in charge. As of yesterday, more than 500,000 Texans in the Houston area were without power, and will remain so until the middle of the coming week. Many of them were angry, accusing Abbott and his administration for failing to be prepared.

I understand, Abbott and his minions have been too busy passing voter suppression laws, laws to prevent a woman’s right to abortion under any circumstance, and making life more difficult for transexuals.

TEXAS HAS A 140 MILLION DOLLAR BUDGET FOR ITS “ALTERNATIVES TO ABORTION PROGRAM.”

Here’s where I prove that all governments are corrupt, but some are more corrupt than others. All red states are “red,” but some proudly wear a darker shade of crimson.

Now that Texas passed legislation which forbids abortion under any and all circumstances, the 140-million-dollar budget has been diverted to a new program.

[In the words of Rep. Jeff Leach, a Republican from Plano, the goal is to “provide the full support and resources of the state government … to come alongside of these thousands of women and their families who might find themselves with unexpected, unplanned pregnancies.”]

However, an investigation by ProPublica and CBS revealed that the money is actually going to non-profit, anti-abortion groups. Can any Republican tell the truth about anything? They must all have contracted Donald Trump Disease. The only way to get the disease is by kissing Trump’s humongous derriere.

WHO SHOULD NOT LIVE IN THE LONE STAR STATE

Texas is a state where hatred, racism, and bigotry are accepted. Therefore, if you are Black, Hispanic, a non-Christian, or a real woman, why would you choose to remain in a state which doesn’t want you; that doesn’t respect you or your Constitutional rights?

Fact: the majority of red states are among the poorest in the nation. They are also among the growing number of Americans who are without any healthcare.

Fact: red states are among the least-educated Americans. Republicans thrive on the ignorant and uninformed.

Fact: red state, right-wing politicians support Project 2025.

Fact: red states are in opposition to every poll on every issue supported by the majority, including a woman’s right to make decisions about her own mental and physical health, equal rights for women in all situations, the rights of the LGBTQ community, the separation of Church and State, protecting voting rights for everyone, universal healthcare, and free or affordable education for all Americans.

What they choose to support includes censorship in schools, omitting any mention of slavery, racism, homosexuality, transgender Americans, and any facts about why the Civil War was fought. In other words, the truth. Facts are forbidden in all red states, and the purple state of Florida. I didn’t forget about their intention to establish Christianity as America’s one, true religion, in a direct, blatant violation of the First Amendment.

“Ya all” might like Texas, but my conscience, sense of right and wrong, and ability to think openly and freely would never allow it.
