Republicans for Harris?
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
In 1980 it is fair to say that Reagan won the election with
the assistance of “crossover Democrats.”
This is how voters break down by party affiliation or none
in 2024. Of all registered voters, 32 percent claim to be Republicans, 33
percent Democrats, and 35 percent Independents. Simple mathematics reveals that
the winner will be decided by Independents unless a significant crossover vote
is registered by one of the two major parties.
AN EVEN LARGER WIN FOR HARRIS THAN BIDEN IN 2020?
The media is reporting a percentage of Republicans have chosen
to vote for Democrat Kamala Harris now that President Biden stepped away from
his campaign for reelection. Without Biden in the race for the White House, a
growing number of Republicans revealed their displeasure with Trump’s legal
problems and his proposed Project 2025, and announced their support for the
Vice-President.
The Villages is the largest retirement home in the United
States. Traditionally this community is a GOP stronghold. However, on Saturday
dozens of golf carts supporting Kamala Harris rallied in celebration of her
presumptive nomination. Democrats within The Villages were eager to display
their excitement.
ONE WEEK AGO A MAJOR FACTOR ENTERED INTO THE 2024 ELECTION
Until last Sunday, one factor was missing in the 2024
election: excitement. Very few voters were supportive of a sequel to 2020 with
the same two white men opposing each other and four years older. Age was a notable
problem for Mr. Biden, and continues to be an issue for Trump.
One half of our nation’s people are under the age of thirty-eight.
Younger voters are already showing their support for Ms. Harris. Black women
are pledging their support, and I have no doubt that most women will rally
behind Harris and give our nation its first woman president. Trump makes it
obvious that he is the leader of the white supremacy movement in America, and
consistently reveals his dislike of Asians in general. Kamala Harris’ ethnicity
is mixed, with her father being a Black man, and her mother a descendent of
Indian parents.
A NON-FACTOR IN 2024?
Few Americans are willing to admit that America has been a
racist nation since 1619, nor will most admit that sexism has been a problem
since its conception.
In 2016, Hillary Clinton faced the reality that a large
number of men were opposed to the idea of a Woman president. I believe our
nation has changed over the last eight years, and the possibility of a woman
leading our country is very likely.
Women compose 50.9 percent of our nation’s population. In
2020, 68.4 percent of eligible women voted in the election, vs 65 percent of
men.
In the 2017 Women’s March against Trump, an estimated
3,300,000–4,600,000 people participated in the United States and up to 5
million did worldwide. Packed cars, buses, airplanes, and trains commuted
protesters to the march. The large crowds enabled Washington's Metro to break
1,000,000 passengers for only the second time in its history.
In contrast, Trump supporters are dominated by white males.
Already showing support for Kamala Harris, a Zoom call between the presumptive
Democratic candidate and women of all races broke the system.
Finally, Fox News and right-wing politicians are making up
new rules which do not apply to what is happening. They claim that Kamala
Harris cannot be allowed to be the party’s presidential candidate, However,
they fail to offer an explanation for their charges.
The word is desperation. They will all be crying on November
5th when Kamala Harris kicks Trump’s humongous ass.
