Sorry You Are Living in Hell, but You Voted for Them

Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart

Over one-half million Texans are without power, and will likely remain so until the middle of next week. This is the result of Hurricane Beryl.

Houston was devastated, as homes and businesses became uninhabitable and closed until further notice.

The human suffering and loss of revenue is causing justifiable anger from Houston’s residents. It is apparent that the power companies, and therefore the government, were unprepared for such a disastrous situation.

SORRY, BUT NOT SORRY

I do not wish to appear uncaring or unconcerned, you are my fellow Americans. However, you elected Greg Abbott and his administration whose focus has been more on preventing a woman’s right to an abortion, and punishing transexual Americans for who they are than the security and welfare of the people of their state.

A TRADITION AMONG TEXAS’ REPUBLICAN POLITICIANS

What did Governor Greg Abbott do to relieve pain and suffering in his state. The answer is “nothing.” Friday, Abbott left for Asia to attend a tourism meeting. Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick was left in charge.

If this sounds familiar, you might remember February of 2021 when Texas was covered in a huge, very cold snowstorm. Like today, power outages were occurring all over the state.

Senator Ted Cruz abandoned his state’s people and took his family to Cancun, Mexico.

Leaders cancel plans when the people they are elected to serve need them. This is apparently not true with Republicans. For them, it’s me first and let the people take care of themselves.

I WORRY ABOUT MY STATE OF NEVADAS

I live in Northern Nevada. Prior to 2022, our state had two hard-working and caring Governors; one a Republican, and one a Democrat. Both Brian Sandoval and Steve Sisolak served our state well.

Sandoval guarantee the future of our state’s economy with efforts to bring new businesses to Nevada.

Sisolak saved our economy with timely action to save the multi-billion-dollar gambling industry during Trump’s failure to act quickly when he was informed of a coming health emergency.

However, in 2022, uninformed voters elected former Las Vegas Sheriff Joe Lombardo as our Governor. He is one of Trump’s MAGA Republicans and lacks the experience to act quickly and confidently in an emergency.

I fear that he could fail our people when we need him most, just like Trump did in 2020. Some disasters just won’t go away.” More than one million lives were lost from the pandemic. Healthcare experts claim that Trump’s failure to take timely action is directly responsible for about 100,000 of those lives.

VOTERS USUALLY GET WHAT THEY DESERVE

Millions of voters make decisions based on the ignorance of an emotional response rather than common sense and reality.

I admit that in 1980, I did not fully vet Ronald Reagan. After I, and millions of others elected him, he revealed the real Ronald Reagan during his first few months in office. His fiscal policy was to give tax breaks to the super-rich. His domestic policy was to begin wars against the working class, minorities, women, and all non-Christian religions.

Reagan made a fool of me, and I vowed that would never happen again.

Professional politicians are all bad: some are just worse than others. They call themselves “Republicans.”
