The Supreme Court Must Be Held Accountable

The Supreme Court of the United States is America’s
monarchy. With lifetime appointments and no way to remove a justice from office
other than the impeachment process, the nine members sitting in control of our
nation’s future are virtually “bulletproof.”
President Biden has a solution which I continue to strongly
support.
OUR FOUNDING FATHERS WERE NOT INFALLIBLE
Most democracies have either term limits or mandatory
retirement age requirements. Our Founding Father’s intent was to prevent a need
for political involvement by removing the need to win elections.
Northeastern law professor Michael Meltsner, who specializes
in the Supreme Court, said the intent was to insulate justices from partisan
politics.
“That was put into the Constitution to preserve the total
independence of the judiciary,” said Meltsner, the George J. and Kathleen
Waters Matthews Distinguished University Professor of Law. “Once a justice is
confirmed and takes a seat on the court, they’re not beholden to anybody.”
A POLITICIZED SUPREME COURT IS FAR FROM JUST
Trump caused more damage to the United States over four
years than any other entity in the world. Over the last two years it has become
undeniabley true that his most destructive action was to secure the appointments
of three unqualified and politically biased justices.
It is no secret that justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel
Alito have always been biased in favor of the right-wing of our political
system. Adding Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett allowed
Chief Justice, John Roberts, to follow their lead. The Court is now biased in
support of a conservative agenda with a 6-3 super majority.
This Court has failed to perform its single responsibility and
is now making and remaking the law. In 2022, a rule protecting the rights of
all women to make decisions about their own physical and mental health was
removed. It voided a ruling made by a legitimate Court 49 years in the past.
This year the same biased justices struck down a ruling
which involved Chevron Oil. The original decision confirmed substantial
environmental damage cause by the company’s practices and procedures. Voiding
this decision will allow all of our nation’s major polluters to renew their
destructive policies.
The only purpose of the Supreme Court is to decide if laws
and rules conform to the intent of the Constitution. It is not intended to
perform the functions of the legislative branch.
A FACT I FIND VERY INTERESTING
Clarence Thomas was nominated and confirmed by George H.W.
Bush. John Roberts and Samuel Alito owe their allegiance to George W. Bush.
Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett belong to Trump and Moscow Mitch McConnell.
Five of the six Republican Justices were appointed by the
two former presidents I believe are without a doubt the worst in history:
George W. Bush and Donald John Trump. These two men were elected using tactics including
lies, baseless attacks, and the most dangerous of all, half-truths.
Bush was gifted the Electoral College by another biased
Supreme Court. Trump became the president illegitimately thanks to the efforts
of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Both lost the popular vote. Unfortunately,
the rights of the people to have their votes count, have been removed.
PRESIDENT BIDEN IS OFFERING A SOLUTION
Today, President Biden is lobbying for the establishments of
term limits for Supreme Court justices.
I have been an advocate for term limits on all three
branches of our government for more than a decade. It is the only logical and
effective way to save the future of the government of the United States of
America.
I’ll say it again: “Power corrupts and absolute power
corrupts absolutely.”
Common sense is lacking in our federal government, as corruption
expands its hold on our nation’s future.
