Trump, Robert Morris, The Gateway Church, Politics, and Hypocrisy
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
This is an old story. It involves a disgraced illegitimate
president, a former pastor of a Texas Mega Church turned sexual deviate, the
ugly profession of politics, and the most common evil in America today,
hypocrisy.
I have no doubt most of you know my position on organized
religion. If you do, you also know that I admire anyone who is devoted to his
or her religion, but I also condemn anyone who uses their perceived religion as
a tool to enhance their personal lives. Over my 78 years, I learned that one
religious leader, who is nothing more than a con man, is frequently responsible
for the growing number of Americans like me who reject all organized religion.
About one-third of all men and women in this country, 100 million, no longer
attend services at churches, synagogues, mosques, or temples devoted to a
single faith. The truth is, the number of new converts to Chistian faiths is in
decline.
THE CHRISTIAN RELIGIOUS RIGHT IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL AND THE
REASON ALL CHRISTIAN FAITHS ARE LOSING THEIR MEMBERS
In concert with right-wing politicians, evangelical leaders
formed a lobby known as the Christian Religious Right, CRR. Their actions, and
the actions of these pretend Republicans are in violation of the First
Amendment. All Americans are guaranteed the right to practice the religion of
their choice or none at all.
The CRR and a large number of pseudo-Republicans are
involved in a movement to make Christianity America’s one true religion. These
same individuals, I call fake Christians, continue to support a convicted
felon, a confirmed sexual predator, and a threat to our nation’s future. Go
figure.
DOWNFALL OF TRUMP’S SPIRITUAL ADVISOR
Trump is not a Christian, in fact there is no argument that
his only “gods” are money and power. The pastor of the church he calls his own
says that not once has the pathological liar walked across the threshold.
However, he called the pastor of a Mega-Church in Texas his
“spiritual advisor.” Robert Morris was the pastor of Gateway Church, but
recently resigned after he was accused of sexual assault by a 12-year-old girl.
Now for your tidbit of Wednesday humor, This is Morris’
excuse.
[A lawyer for disgraced Texas megachurch pastor Robert
Morris blamed his accuser for initiating their yearslong “inappropriate sexual”
contact when she was just 12, newly released documents show.]
It’s always the child’s fault. You just cannot trust
sexually aggressive 12-year-old girls. I can just picture her overpowering the
“righteous reverend.”
I have a warped sense of humor. When I listen to excerpts of
sermons from pastors who serve in these huge churches, several things come to
mind. First, I view them as televangelists, not legitimate religious leaders. I
wait for them to bring out the snake oil. Then my mind flashes back to Jimmy
Swaggert admitting that he was a sinner while tear are flooding down his face.
I laughed until I couldn’t laugh any longer.
THE BIGGEST SINNER IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD IS SUPPORTED
BY EVANGELICALS
One of the primary duties of all religious leaders is to
encourage sinners to admit the harm they have done to themselves and others. Their
next responsibility is forgiveness, but only after the sinner repents. This
will never happen with Trump. He consistently claims that he has never done
anything wrong, although the story of his life is a history of crime and
debauchery.
If the leader of a religious
congregation is a liar and a hypocrite, who can you trust? Who and what can you
believe?
I have high standards: we all should. Our president should
be a woman or a man who is experienced, has a high standard of morals, lives
her or his life according to principles learned from life, and will do the
right thing for our nation’s people. None of these apply to Trump.
Trump cares about himself and no one else. Four years
between 2017 and 2021 he did nothing for the American people. His focus was on “playtime,”
and increasing his personal wealth, while violating the Constitution.
We can do much better than having a president who is a
convicted felon and a sexual predator, who committed treason and violated the
Espionage Act. Neither of the latter deserve a trial: Trump is guilty. I
watched both crimes on television.
