Trump and Kennedy Are Rejected: This Should Become the Philosophy of All Americans

Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart

Although Trump begged for support from members of the Libertarian Party on Saturday evening, he was adamantly rejected today. Instead of the cheers experienced from his cult at his hate rallies, he was booed, insulted and faced his own brand of name-calling.

Both he and Robert Kennedy Jr. had hoped for an endorsement from the “third party,” but were ignored.

The two presidential wannabes spoke at the Libertarian National Convention, but failed to convince its members that they were worthy of support. Instead, they chose Chase Oliver. He received 60 percent of the vote.

WHO IS OLIVER, AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A LIBERTARIAN?

“We did it! I am officially the presidential nominee,” Oliver posted on X after his nomination was approved. “It’s time to unify and move forward for liberty.”

Oliver is a strong critic of Israel’s apparent genocide efforts in Gaza and now Rafah.

Libertarian Party: “The Libertarian Party (LP) is a political party in the United States that promotes civil liberties, non-interventionism, laissez-faire capitalism, and limiting the size and scope of government.”

Sounds reasonable to me. I no longer understand what either major party stands for. Both Democrats and Republicans claim to have factions which are moderate, liberal, and in the former Republican Party, extremists. What does that mean in 2024?

WE ALL KNOW WHAT THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES STAND FOR

The truth is that the American people know the positions of one Democrat, and one Republican.

By his example, President Biden has revealed his concerns for the well being of all Americans. His many successes in less than four years demonstrate what he could do in four more years. Although his age continues to be a subject for discussion, Trump is virtually the same age, although the right-wing nominee frequently displays signs of physical and mental impairment.

Since 2015 Trump has revealed himself as a man who hates the America of our Founding Fathers. By his own admission, he will not represent all 330 million people: he has chosen to serve only those who serve him. His attempt to overthrow our government on January 6, 2021 makes him America’s greatest traitor. His theft of classified documents confirms his lack of respect for the law and the security of the United States of America. By definition, Trump is not an American.

I AM PROUD TO BE AN INDEPENDENT AND REJECT POLITICAL PARTIES

I am not a “joiner.” I am about as independent as any man can be. I rejected invitations to join exclusive groups in school. I reject organized religion. And I reject all political parties.

If either major party adopted the basic principles of the Libertarian Party, I might be more inclined to support one or the other. But first, they would have to agree to term limits, create much shorter campaign seasons, and end the waste of millions of dollars spent on elections.

MY PERSONAL FEAR FOR NOVEMBER 5TH

I encourage every eligible voter to vote in every election: each is important. However, I fear that on November 5th a lack of excitement about two, old, white men will result in a lower turnout than in 2020. This would be a serious mistake.

When the turnout is lower than expected, as it was in 2016, those who call themselves “Republicans” win.

The largest number of voters consider themselves “Independents.” The second largest are Democrats, and the third Republicans. We, the people, cannot allow Trump to continue the damage to our nation he created between 2017 and 2021. After domestic terrorism, Trump and his American Fascist Party is the greatest danger to our country’s people, and future of America.

Voting is both a right and a responsibility. Our Founding Fathers believed that the people should be represented by elected officials in our nation’s capital. Those we elect are expected to represent our needs and wishes, not their own. Therefore we get what we deserve.

Vote responsibly: not for a party, but a person: the man or woman whose policies are closest to your own.
