With the Beginning of the End of the Grand Old Party in 1981, Came the Beginning of the End of Your Constitutional Rights
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
Every action has consequences. In 1981, no one paid any
attention to Ronald Reagan’s seemingly unimportant demand from his own
political party. The mainstream media referred to it as “party unification.”
What it really meant was the beginning of fascism within our federal government,
and the repeal of rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
Reagan demanded unquestioned loyalty from every member of
the Republican Party. Every member of the House and Senate on the right side of
the aisle was required to support Reagan’s policies without dissent. Thus began
the end of deliberation and compromise within the Capitol. This one action is
the primary reason why our government is dysfunctional today.
This unwritten rule for all right-wing politicians continued
throughout the George H.W. Bush single term, the George W. Bush administration,
and continues under Trump’s fascist rule.
However, under Trump, his party has become extreme, openly
displaying its plans to end democracy and establish a fascist regime in
Washington. Their fascist manifesto is known as “Project 2025.”
What Reagan began has reached a level of destruction no one
could have foreseen. Not only do Democrats and Republicans refuse to speak to
each other, fake Republicans viciously attack their liberal counterparts with
cruel and fallacious statements.
The one thing which bothers me is doubt. I do not see a path
which will ever heal the divide. The 435 members of the House and 100 Senators
compose the most incompetent and uncaring legislative branch in America’s
history. They rule over 340 million people, refusing to address our needs and
wishes. It is clear that they believe we are here to serve them.
Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush paved the way
for Trump and his ambition to become a dictator who exists by telling lies and
attacking his millions of enemies: enemies he has cultivated for 79 years.
The real Republican Party ceased to exist long before Trump.
He simply realized that the Grand Old Party was without leadership and losing
its base. Desperate to win elections after Obama, they lined up quickly to
serve Trump’s every demand and ignore his constant violations of the Law of the
Land.
Democrats continue to display a lack of courage or display sufficient
support for true Democratic principles demanded and expected by their base.
There is no one who even slightly resembles the greatest
President in American history, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, or the only great
President in my lifetime, John Fitzgerald Kennedy.
