Trump Country?
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart Bright red. That’s the color I would use to describe Tennessee’s 7 th Congressional District. It covers parts of Nashville and has been described as a “redneck stronghold.” Today, December 2, 2025, there will be a special election to fill a vacancy in the House. What makes this interesting is the fact that polls show the election as “very close.” In a normal year, a year without Trump in the White House, the Republican candidate, Matt Van Epps, would be celebrating before the election began. Instead, Democratic candidate, Aftyn Behn, is hopeful. I seriously doubt that Ms. Behn will be victorious. However, Trump and Mike Johnson are shaking in their cowboy boots. Mark Green, who resigned in July, won this district by 22 points in 2024. However, the issue of “affordability” is a major concern for all of Tennessee’s residents and the election has been called “too close to call” in 2025.
