Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart My wife and I were watching television on January 6, 2021, when our show was interrupted by the always disconcerting message, “Breaking News.” Donald Trump walked onto a makeshift podium. I almost changed the channel. I cannot listen to the old, obese, mentally ill man. He is clearly several bricks short of a load. However, for the next three hours we watched what came to be the “darkest day in American history.” I learned later that not only did Trump lie about the results of the 2020 election, he, a few of his aides, and leaders of several Neo-Nazi groups had planned and organized an attempted coup at the Willard Hotel over the last several weeks. Trump executed the insurrection from that podium as we watched the unthinkable happen. Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart Trump is not an American. He does not believe in the Bill of Rights, and definitely not in equality. Over the last nine months there is no doubt that he is the leader of the Neo-Nazi Party in America. Trump has zero class, and his tastes in architecture are garish and gaudy. This is important to me because I love history. When an historical building is demolished, it is very painful. Trump has destroyed the entire east wing of the White House without permission from its owners, we, the people. In its place, an unnecessary “ballroom” will be constructed, which will be twice as large as what remains of the original building. Without a doubt it will be the ugliest building on Capitol Hill. I have no doubt it will be an atrocity. I have pictures of Trump’s residence in Trump Tower. Only a Roman emperor could sleep at night in his ridiculous golden monstrosity.
