Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart I knew when Trump announced a plan to build an unnecessary ballroom, and swore it would cost 200 million dollars, all paid for by his oligarchs, he was telling another huge lie. No one wanted his monstrosity. Although he promised that only a small part of the East Wing of the White House would be demolished, he told another lie. The People’s Home no longer has an East Wing. Trump is a guest of the people and has no right to make any changes to the White House, I believe a lawsuit should be filed against the orange buffoon, forcing him to return the White House to its original condition, and he must pay for it. THE BIGGEST LIE IS ABOUT THE COST Over the last few months,Trump changed the estimated cost of his garish edifice to himself from 200 to 300 and finally to 400 million dollars. What if you learned about an historical home which was burned to the ground on August 24, 1814 during the War of 1812, and there was hope that someone would rebuild it? What if you were very rich, and rebuilt one of the most important and cherished homes in the world as close to the original blueprints as possible. Then you decorated and furnished it with items which had been removed and spared before the fire was set, and spent many hours and large amounts of money to return the building to its former glory. Although you did not live in this huge and impressive mansion, you occasionally allowed others to reside in what had become an historical structure cherished by every person in your country. If you have ever seen pictures of his residence in Trump Tower, New York, certain facts, some understanding about the “real Donald Trump,” are immediately apparent. His home is a garish display revealing his desire to be a “king,” or another form of autocratic despot. The atmosphere is cold and void of warmth or charm, offering a simple message: “you are not welcome here.” The overall feeling is discomfort. Trump is breaking the law as he attempts to remake our White House in his image. It is tasteless and another effort to destroy our nation’s history and traditions. With Trump in the White House, I am ashamed of my country. What Trump is doing to the “People’s Home” is only comparable to what the British did on August 24, 1814, during the War of 1812, when they burned it to the ground. Regardless of their lies, the historic turnout was one of the most American actions in decades. True Americans denounced Trump and his Nazi Party as they attempt to destroy democracy in America. Let’s take a quick look at real life, the lives of most Americans, known as the “working class.” In any state, town, or township, if you purchase a residence or business in an historical district, there are many rules and regulations preventing the destruction of our nation’s heritage. Any effort to remodel or refurbish an older building must be approved by what is usually called the “preservation committee.” Nothing can begin, no demolition, and no construction, until it is approved by the committee. Six corrupt Supreme Court justices granted Trump absolute immunity and therefore permission to become a king, dictator, Fuhrer, or anything else which defines an autocrat.
