In October of 2025, CBS’ parent company, Paramount, placed Trump sycophant, Bari Weiss, in control of the News Department. Big mistake by men and women with too much money. -One of her first decisions was to fire late-night talk show host Stephen Colbert. Fans did not agree, and this began a decline in all CBS’ news-related broadcasts. DECLINES IN MORNING AND EVENING VIEWERS Recently, I reported that the CBS evening news broadcast is behind the other two legitimate networks in the ratings. A new study confirms that the morning “news” shows are experiencing the same situation. Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart I was a junior in high school in 1962. As my family always did, we turned on CBS to watch the evening news every evening as we ate dinner on our TV trays. Our small, one bedroom apartment did not have a dining room. There was a new man sitting behind the news desk. His name was Walther Cronkite. From that day forward, we never missed his broadcast. He earned his reputation as “the most trusted man in America.” In those days the only national broadcast networks were CBS, ABC, and NBC. There were local stations in Los Angeles, channels 5, KTLA, channel 9, KCAL, and 11, KTTV. Our most watched networks were CBS and channel 9. Channel 9 had a slogan, “MAYFE,” Movies Are Your Finest Entertainment. Old movies were shown every Friday night, including John Wayne’s westerns and his WWII movies. The person who has been in front of television cameras the most over the last 10+ years is Donald Trump. He has chosen to tell lies and avoid the truth for nearly 80 years. Last year, Lombardo approved ads placed by real estate developers falsely claiming that with the increase in availability of new homes and apartments, housing costs and rental rates would be reduced. Less than 50 percent of all Nevadans can afford a new home. A large number of newly constructed single family homes are purchased by corporations who will overcharge their renters and make huge profits. Like the rest of America, in Nevada, it’s all about profits for the super-rich. I remain addicted today. On Monday through Friday, we watched the evening news. Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart Two television broadcasts I never missed were “60 Minutes,” and “CBS Sunday Morning.” The Sunday morning broadcast is composed of positive stories about real people and a perfect way to begin a Sunday morning. “60 Minutes” was the only news show I watched because it was a hard-hitting broadcast which exposed the truth about people and things happening in our country and around the world. However, Mike Wallace is turning over in his grave today. My mother, brother, and I watched the CBS evening news every evening in the 1950s and 1960s. Walter Cronkinte informed us of the most important events in just 30 minutes.
