Ron DeSantis: This Story Took Longer to Happen than I Expected
Ron DeSantis is a Republican. He is currently the Governor
of the strangest state in the Union, Florida. Add those two facts together and
I am very surprised that it took this long for DeSantis to become the center of
a scandal.
DeSantis revealed himself to be a fascist and a bigot time
and time again. However, until now he has not been suspected of a major
misappropriation of large amounts of money. It was only a matter of time: he is another fake Republican.
In my life of 78 years, no situation in America has been as
mishandled and no administration has failed to make genuine attempts to save
lives as the coronavirus known as Covid-19. Trump did nothing other than lie to
our nation’s people, claiming “it will just go away.” More than one-million
lives were lost and our economy crashed, nearly becoming a second Great
Depression.
How does this apply to Desantis. That’s easy.
Florida is home to millions of Americans who were members of
the most ‘at risk’ group during the pandemic. Centene, a company which provides
manage care to Medicaid recipients, was ordered to pay 67 million dollars after
it was charged with overcharging taxpayers for numerous medications.
Ten million dollars of the settlement went to a charity
called “Hope Florida.” This agency was founded by Ron DeSantis’ wife Casey, “to
help people move off government assistance into community-based programs.”
Hope Florida transferred the 10 million dollars to two dark
money groups not required to reveal their identity. The two groups sent 8.5
million to a group fighting against the legalization of marijuana. The group was
controlled by DeSantis' then-chief of staff, now Florida Attorney General James
Uthmeier.
“Republican lawmakers, including Rep. Alex Andrade, say they
believe that transaction was illegal.”
I doubt that DeSantis will be fairly punished, even if he is
guilty. And if he is found guilty, he will be pardoned by Trump. Justice disappeared
from America in 2016.
It is no secret that current members of the Trump
Administration have been accused of crimes, including Matt Gaetz, who withdrew
his nomination for Attorney General, Pam Bondi, the current AG for accepting
bribes when she was the Attorney General of Florida, Jim Jordan for refusing to
prevent sexual assault of wrestlers attending Ohio State by his boss, and Pete
Hegseth for embezzling funds from two veteran’s charity organizations. Consider
these other Republican notable.
Paul Manafort: Former Trump campaign chairman, convicted of
financial crimes and sentenced to seven and a half years in prison.
Rick Gates: Top deputy to Manafort, convicted of financial
crimes.
Roger Stone: Longtime advisor to Trump, convicted of
obstructing a congressional inquiry, lying to investigators, and witness
tampering.
Michael Flynn: Campaign advisor and briefly national
security advisor, convicted of lying to the FBI.
George Santos: Former US Representative, sentenced to 7
years in prison for fraud and identity theft.
Chris Collins: Former US Representative, convicted of
insider trading and sentenced to more than two years in prison.
Duncan Hunter: Former US Representative, convicted of
misusing campaign funds and sentenced to just under a year in federal prison.
Michele Fiore: Former Las Vegas city councilwoman and state
lawmaker, convicted of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
Justin Eichorn: Minnesota state senator, resigned after
being charged with soliciting a minor for prostitution.
Ralph Shortey: Oklahoma state senator, resigned and later
pleaded guilty to child sex trafficking.
Greg Gianforte: Current Montana Governor, pleaded guilty to
a misdemeanor charge of assaulting a reporter.
It is never a surprise when a current or former Republican
is accused of, and/or convicted for his or her crimes.
Their leader, Donald Trump is a convicted felon. He is
clearly guilty of treason based on the January 6 failed coup, and violating the
Espionage Act for stealing boxes of national secrets on January 20, 2021, but
was granted immunity by six corrupt members of the Supreme Court.
