When the President, Military Leaders, and the Supreme Court Approved Torture, America Was Doomed
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
For most of my 79 years, our nation’s leaders placed
morality, and common sense in priority number one. This allowed the world to consider
the United States the most respected nation ion the world. Then 9/11 happened.
The second worst president in history, along with his Vice-President,
who was opportunistic and a war monger, overreacted and altered the moral
character and principles of what was once the most envied nation on the globe.
The Constitution was placed in a dustbin, awaiting its
destruction, as tactics of fear, anger, and hatred were used to secure power
for one political party.
Under the advice of the devil’s disciple, Dick Cheney,
President George W. Bush approved radical and anti-American actions under the guise
of protecting our nation from future terrorist attacks on American soil. This was
all bullshit, and what became an effective method to control 330 million
uninformed Americans, and win reelection.
Hundreds, if not thousands of men who were presumed to be
terrorists were tortured and held in detention facilities without due process. A
Republican dominated legislature passed the most unconstitutional law in
history, the Patriot Act, removing First, Fourth, and Fourteenth Amendment
rights.
All of these crimes were committed under Bush 43’s
presidency, and resulted in the fascist policies which exist today under the
old, obese traitor who rules over our nation in 2025.
I grew up watching an actor who likely avoided military
service in WWII, John Wayne, play heroes who served in the ‘war to defeat
fascism’ for years. In those films, our nation was portrayed as a nation with
an exemplary moral compass and principles which were beyond reproach. It was
all a lie: propaganda intended to hide the truth from the American people.
America has never been a great nation. The primary reason
involves the failures of our elected officials, most significantly our presidents
who failed to follow the simple rule: “doing the right thing every time,
regardless of the consequences.”
The policy of torturing our perceived enemies began in 2002,
and I remember how disgusted and ashamed I was in those early days. I read what
respected psychiatrists said about this evil policy.
[Professional psychiatric organizations and the majority of
psychiatrists unequivocally condemn torture and any form of cruel, inhuman, or
degrading treatment or punishment.
This position is grounded in medical ethics and humanitarian
principles, including the Hippocratic Oath's directive to "do no
harm" and prioritize patient well-being. Major psychiatric organizations
have made their positions clear:]
Something our military leaders hide from the American people
is based on fact and makes me question their integrity and their basic
intelligence..
Torture is 100 percent ineffective. After repeated torture,
the victims will tell you whatever you want to hear, not the truth. It is a
moronic process which will fail every time. This is another reason why our
military leaders have lost every war since WWII.
