Trump Offers Another Reason No One Should Live in a Red State
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
First, the truth. There would be no “Red” or “Blue” states
if the Unconstitutional Electoral College did not exist. Although the original
intent was to ensure that the president would be chosen by the people, “one
person, one vote,” the EC allows the states to choose our leaders.
If you live in a “Red” State, and you vote for the Democratic
candidate, your vote will likely be wasted. Just the opposite is true in Deep, “Blue”
states. If you vote for the Republican candidate, you have wasted your time and
your vote.
Red states overwhelmingly vote for anyone with an “R” next
to his or her name. They have no interest in the candidate’s position on the
issues. Their attitude is “never vote for a damn Yankee.”
Ignorance is costly and destructive. Trump’s actions are
harming his supporters to a greater degree than those who reject him.
[The Trump administration’s cuts to Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention funding for state and local health departments had
vastly uneven effects depending on the political leanings of a state, according
to a KFF Health News analysis. Democratic-led states and select blue-leaning
cities fought back in court and saw money for public health efforts restored —
while GOP-led states sustained big losses.]
Here are some additional interesting facts about states
controlled by Republican Governors and their state legislatures.
There are many inequities between red and blue states, and
you can read them all in the attached articles. However, here are a few which
affect all Americans, positively or negatively.
“The median family income in Blue states is $74,243. In Red
states it’s $63,553. Individual states highlight the disparity: New Jersey’s
median income is $89,703, while Mississippi’s is $49,111.”
Counties which voted for Biden in 2020 have a greater
percentage of diversity than those who voted for Trump. Counties considered “blue”
had a 35 percent diverse population. In “red” counties, the diversity rate was
16 percent.
Counties which voted for Biden were better educated, with 36
percent of its residents with some college or degrees. In counties who
supported Trump, the percentage was 25 percent.
Residents in blue states live an average of 2.2 years longer
than those of red states.
If that doesn’t get to you, read these facts. Red states
have higher percentages of:
— Spousal abuse
— Obesity
— Smoking
— Teen pregnancy
— Sexually transmitted diseases
— Abortion (at least before Dobbs; now it would be “forced
births”)
— Bankruptcies and poverty
— Homicide and suicide
— Infant mortality
— Maternal mortality
— Forcible rape
— Robbery and aggravated assault
— Dropouts from high school
— Divorce
— Contaminated air and water
— Opiate addiction and deaths
— Unskilled workers
— Parasitic infections
— Income and wealth inequality
— Covid deaths and unvaccinated people
— Federal subsidies to states (“Red State Welfare”)
— People on welfare
— Child poverty
— Homelessness
— Spousal murder
— Unemployment
— Deaths from auto accidents
— People living on disability
— Gun deaths
I live in what is labeled a “purple state.” In the most
beautiful part of Nevada, the northern region, where I am lucky to live, the
population is overwhelmingly composed of right-wing extremists. In the south,
the population is more divided, with a slight edge belonging to men and women
who are more liberal.
Yesterday, it was revealed that because the leaders of blue
states took action in the courts to curtail some of the budget cuts resulting from
the least qualified Secretary of Health and Human Services in history, support they
are and will suffer less than those residing in red states whose leaders Trump
and his destructive administration. (I thought this was worth repeating).
