Why It is of Ultimate Importance that Separation of Church and State Remain a Priority
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
At the end of the Constitutional Convention in 1789, our
Founding Fathers were aware that their creation was imperfect. Unaware of the inherent
evils of mankind, they mistakenly believed that their successors would make the
necessary improvements which would make the United States a truly great nation.
However, they also displayed great wisdom. The First Amendment
is considered the most important declaration of human rights in history by
Constitutional scholars. Allow me to refresh your memory.
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of
religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of
speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and
to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
The first line was clearly the most important to every man
attending the convention. Most of the men who signed the Constitution were Deists.
A few were Christians. All of them were spiritual.
What they knew is that all religions are basically cults. When
King George III declared that the Anglican Church would be the only true
religion of the British Empire, he was forcing every man, woman, and child to
live according to the precepts of a single religion. This violated the right of
any English citizen to have free thought and act independently from the masses.
The first president to violate the First Amendment was
Ronald Reagan. Reagan declared his absolute support for Christianity. This was
the beginning of the Christian Religious Right. Over the last 44 years, every
right-wing politician consulted the CRR prior to voting for the bills and policies placed before them.
A woman’s right to decide the fate of her own mental and physical health, and
the rights of the LGBTQ would not be “hot button” issues without the influence
of the CRR.
Fact: with the exception of Judaism, the oldest of all major
religions, whose origin is unclear, all religions were created by mortal men. I
have no doubt that some of these individuals had good intentions. In 2025, it
is abundantly clear that many of the men who lead all variations of
Christianity, the Religion of Islam, and other faiths have a far different purpose.
Like millions of other men and women, they seek great power and outrageous
wealth.
Trump claims that he supports the separation of Church and
State. However, when Raphael Warnock, the junior Senator from the state of
Georgia, and the Senior Pastor of a church in Alabama, stated that he would say
a prayer for the victims of the shooting at Brown University on “Meet the Press,”
Trump said: “whatever happened to the separation of church and state.”
However, seven days later, his own administration revealed its
support for Christianity. The Department of Homeland Security posted two videos
on “X” with the text “Christ is born.”
Just another action founded in hypocrisy from the right side
of the aisle. I’ve become accustomed and expect the same bullshit time and time
again.
