America must get Serious about Voting Rights: Can You Pass This Test?

Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart

The statistics from the 2016 and 2024 elections prove that there must be a test given to every American before he or she can be allowed to vote in any election. Every man and woman must be able to pass the test given to all naturalized citizens. I guarantee you one fact: Trump, his administration, and his cult would fail this test. This will prove that only immigrants who passed the test should be allowed to be citizens of the United States, and exercise their right to vote.

The test consists of 100 questions. An immigration officer will select 10 questions for the oral exam. The applicant must provide six correct answers. Here are just a few of the questions and the correct answers.

What do we call the first ten amendments to the Constitution? The answer is The Bill of Rights. (That’s a very easy one!)

What is one right or freedom from the First Amendment? Any one of these is correct: speech, religion, assembly, press, petition the government (Did you get it right?)

How many amendments does the Constitution have?

Correct answer: 27 (I doubt one in 10,000 men and women born in America could answer this.)

What is freedom of religion? You can practice any religion, or not practice a religion. (Most of everyone I know would not agree that it guarantees my right to “not practice a religion.”)

We elect a U.S. Senator for how many years? Correct answer: 6

Who is one of your state’s U.S. Senators now? (The real question here is, “can you name one or both?” This is a very important question.)

The House of Representatives has how many voting members? Correct Answer, 435. (I would be willing to bet that only 1 in 100,000 voters could answer this correctly.)

We elect a U.S. Representative for how many years? Correct answer: 2 (Like the Senate, most Americans would be unable to answer this question correctly.)

Name your U.S. Representative? (Maybe 1 in 500,000 could answer correctly.)

Now for a couple of questions which are actually difficult.

Who is the Chief Justice of the United States now? John Roberts. (Did you know that?)

Name three of the 13 original states. Correct answers: New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia

(Admit it, if you were asked this question, most of you would be guessing.)

Okay, one last question and it’s so difficult I would be willing to bet my life that no more than 1 in a million could offer the correct answer.

Name one of the writers of the Federalist Papers. Correct answers: (James) Madison, (Alexander) Hamilton, (John) Jay, Publius

I’m much less lenient when it comes to the privilege of being an American citizen, which guarantees the right to vote.

I would make this a written test and all 100 questions would require an answer. No one would be allowed citizenship or the right to vote unless they received a score of 70 or higher.

But I love my country, which means I must know what my country means to me and certain facts which made the United States one of the most respected nations in history.
