How Incompetent and Over-Funded is the U.S. Military?

Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart

Under orders from their Fuhrer-in-Chief, the United States military has been sinking Venezuelan boats and killing civilians. Trump claims that they are drug smugglers, while the government of Venezuela says they were pleasure craft. Members of the National Guard are invadeing blue states as Trump attempts to enact martial law to prevent protests against his fascist policies.

Maybe Trump wants to give the Pentagon a much-needed victory They couldn’t defeat the North Koreans, were forced to retreat from Vietnam permanently, and lost to the Taliban and Iraq’s army before the conflicts began. Our military is not trained to fight in those types of wars. Hell, they couldn’t stop Trump’s Nazi army from invading the Capitol Building on January 6.

Martha Gellhorn, a famous war correspondent, once wrote: "Governments are all bad everywhere, only differently bad. I've known that for a long time". This quote reflects her long and varied experience covering conflicts and atrocities around the world, particularly her firsthand observations of Nazi concentration camps.

Nothing could have proven her allegation more than America’s government in 2025. The men and women on the right side of the aisle are the most corrupt and incompetent in our nation’s 249-year history.

Throughout America’s history, our military leaders and the men and women who were on the ground, fighting those wars, have been praised. Most of this is admirable and well deserved. However, the men and women who sit in offices in the Pentagon in the 21st century have become political, and continue to fail.

As long as I can remember, our nation’s legislative branch approved an increase in our military’s annual budget. I ask a very important and honest question: Why?

The leaders of the biggest and most expensive military force in the world, costing five times more than all other militaries in the world combined, have lost every war since WWII.

Watchdog groups continue a decades-long claim that 50 cents of every dollar the Pentagon has been given each year is wasted on projects which completely fail during or after production.

West Point, Annapolis, and the Air Force Academy continue to teach the future leaders of our military forces tactics which will fail in all future conflicts.

The greatest failure by an incompetent and corrupt government is their continued support for the failures resulting from poor decisions inside the Pentagon.

For the second time in history, the Commander-in-Chief of our military forces is a draft dodger, and a man who once stated, “ I know more than anyone, including our generals.”

I believe that every agency which exists in our nation’s capital and the surrounding area is incompetent, and fails to perform its duties to protect and serve all 340 million Americans.

Prejudice, in the form of racism, bigotry, misogyny, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, and homophobia remain rampant within our government, military, and the oligarchs who now control our nation’s future.

My America has not existed for the last 44 years. Evil men whose need for power and great wealth confirm their loyalty to desires of avarice, control over the multitude, and the preservation of control by pure whites.

Prove me wrong.
