An Embarrassing First for America: A Convicted Felon is the Choice of the Republican Party
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
First, let me say that May 30, 2024 will be remembered as
one of the most American days in our nation’s nearly 248-year history. Trump’s
conviction on all counts proved that no one is above the law. This was a day
when equality became a reality.
However, yesterday will also be at the top of the list of
most embarrassing days in American history. It will be matched with November 8,
2016, when Trump was gifted the Electoral College in a rigged election, and our
government knew about the efforts of Vladimir Putin but did nothing. Millions
of ignorant voters chose the least qualified candidate in history who openly
indicates that he hates America.
LET’S GET TO THE PART WHICH WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH, MAYBE
Here’s a fact which is very difficult to believe. Trump’s
failed party will continue to support him. Those morons who supported Trump
prior to his conviction will continue to support him. His name will be on
ballots in 50 states. If he wins, the leader of our nation will be a convicted
felon, the leader of the fascist movement in America, the leader of the
Neo-Nazi movement in our country, a convicted sex offender, the least qualified
candidate in history, the worst president in history, and an asset of Russian
President Vladimir Putin. Wow! I don’t think he should be allowed to wear the
title of President of the United States.
THE RESPONSE FROM A PARTY WHICH DOES NOT BELIEVE IN THE CONSTITUTION
IS WHAT I EXPECTED
[House Speaker Mike Johnson said it was a “shameful day in
American history” and the charges were “purely political.” Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance
said the verdict was a “disgrace to the judicial system.” And Louisiana Rep.
Steve Scalise, the No. 2 House Republican, said that the decision was “a defeat
for Americans who believe in the critical legal tenet that justice is blind.”]
They know he is guilty of these crimes and many, many more.
Hopefully, he will be found guilty of treason for January 6, guilty for his
obvious theft of classified documents, and lying to the FBI about this fact.
Trump should be spending the remainder of his pitiful life
in a prison, not on a golf course or playing the role of a billionaire at
Mar-a-Lago.
AS A MAJOR CRITIC OF AMERICA’S JUDICIAL SYSTEM, I TAKE A “WAIT
AND SEE” ATTITUDE
Throughout my nearly 78 years as an American citizen, I have
rarely witnessed a single instance of fair punishment for the rich and
powerful. No one in the George W. Bush Administration, or the banking executives
who were responsible for the near depression in 2008 has ever been punished for
their manipulation of our nation’s financial system.
Not a single politician who committed a felony has ever been
fairly punished, including Spiro Agnew, Richard Nixon, Newt Gingrich, or Dennis
Hastert. Trump remains a free man although he is clearly guilty of violating a
federal law twice: lying to the FBI.
I will be surprised if Trump spends a single night in a prison.
I will be shocked if he is not given probation on all 34 counts. Furthermore, I
believe the same will happen when and if he is tried for document theft and his
efforts to overthrow our government.
