If You are a Working-Class Man or Woman, You Probably Hate Petroleum Corporations
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
From the time I could afford to purchase my first automobile, I began to understand why everyone complained about gas prices.
Now, at the mature age of 77, I can tell you why they piss off just about everyone.
The oil and gas industry began the practice of “Greedflation” about 50 years ago. Whenever they had accidents, spills or were forced to make expensive repairs to their aging equipment, they would arbitrarily raise prices at the pump. If you live near a resort area, like me, you notice that the prices are much higher in that area than where you live. I live near Lake Tahoe, and not only is this a fact, these companies raise prices down here in Reno and up in Lake Tahoe prior to every holiday. Tahoe no longer has a commercial airport.
LAST WEEK TRUMP OFFERED 20 OIL EXECUTIVES A BRIBE
It was revealed that last week Trump met with 20 gas and oil executives at Mar-a-Lago. He told them that if they would donate one-billion dollars to his reelection campaign, he would remove all restrictions on drilling, give them carte blanche related to pricing, and restrict the number of electric vehicles being produced in America if elected.
It is currently being reported that the petroleum industry is once again filling the war chests of political candidates, mostly members of the once Grand Old Party. They are among many “owners” of the fake Republican Party, including Big Pharma, the AMA, For-Profit Hospitals, the NRA, Big Insurance Companies, and the Christian Religious Right.
It might interest you to know that the companies which produce oil and gas continue to receive subsidies in the form of tax breaks.
I WOULD BE REMISS IF I FAILED TO MENTION OTHER CORPORATIONS WHICH PRACTICE GREEDFLATION
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention other corporations who are taking advantage of consumers. These are personal because my wife and I are on a fixed income, and they create a huge difficulty in our attempt to maintain a meager quality of life.
Our grocery bills remain 30-40 percent higher than two years ago.
NV Energy, our gas and electricity provider, has raised our bill nearly 60 percent from what we paid less than one year ago.
Our Social Security increase is expected to be 2.5 percent in 2025, or less.
