Some Good News Today When American Values Were Upheld

For this almost 78-year-old man, America can be defined by
compassion, understanding, and acceptance, founded on the principles of
personal freedom, individual rights, and equality for all.
Unfortunately, over the last 43 years, one political party
has rejected these principles and formed a united front to deny the rights of
minorities, the working class, and women.
Therefore, most of my articles involve the negativity which
exists in 21st century America. When I find a positive story
reflecting actions which are aligned with most of the world’s developed
nations, my hope for our country is renewed. Today, I am pleased to report not
one, but two stories which bring light into many recent dark and dismal days.
WOMEN’S RIGHTS AND EQUALITY FOR THE LGBTQ COMMUNITY
In 1864, 48 years before Arizona became a state, a law was
passed designed to prevent any and all abortions in what would become known as
the Grand Canyon State.
Women across Arizona were angry when Republicans supported
this law last week, stating that their rights to decide the physical and mental
state of their own bodies had been removed, thanks to an antiquated and
controversial law.
The states senate voted to repeal this unfair and prejudicial
law today.
The motives of the state’s legislators are uncertain, but there
are more registered female voters than males across America in 2024.
The second issue involves the United Methodist Church, one
of the largest Protestant organizations in America. On Wednesday they repealed
a long-standing rule forbidding members of the LGBTQ community from becoming ministers.
The official statement removes a rule preventing “self-avowed practicing
homosexuals” from being ordained or appointed as ministers.
The First Amendment is alive and well, for now.
OVER THE LAST SEVEN YEARS, THE RIGHTS OF THE LGBTQ COMMUNITY
HAVE BEEN UNDER ATTACK
Led by Marjorie Taylor Greene, Representative from Georgia,
the LGBTQ community has been under attack for their personal beliefs and
principles. It is refreshing to see a Christian organization reject the demands
of the Evangelical Christian Religious Right.
At the core of our nation’s creation are the rights of
individuals to choose a lifestyle of their choice without infringing on the rights
of others. When this is denied by any elected member of our government it
becomes an attack on the precepts of the Constitution.
I WOULD LOVE TO WRITE ABOUT MORE STORIES CONFIRMING THE
IDEALS OF OUR FOUNDING FATHERS
I am not a fool. I recognize the failures of our Founding
Fathers during the Constitutional Convention between 1787 and 1789. Their goal
was to establish rules which would allow the reform and the completion of a
Constitution which would create a new nation unique in its basic principles and
ideals. They were aware that the agreements confirmed in 1789 were not perfect,
but trusted that their successors would make the alterations necessary for the
future of the United States of America.
Their naivete has become apparent in 2024. The government of
our nation has become the most corrupt and incompetent in the world. Important attributes,
including trust, respect, confidence, and representation for all no longer
exist.
Ambition, and personal gain have replaced service to our
nation’s people. This is why I am unable to report positive achievements in
Washington on a regular basis.
Enjoy these small victories and demand more from the women
and men you elect.
