Trump and his Washington Mafia Will Be Remembered by History but not in a Good Way
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
Corruption and even Crimes of a serious nature are far from
uncommon in our nation’s young government. In my lifetime alone, I can think of
several names which have become infamous. I know you all will think first of
Richard Nixon, but there were also three other high-level politicians who were
forced to resign. As you might assume, none of them were fairly punished.
WHO REMEMBERS SPIRO T. AGNEW?
Mr. Nixon’s first Vice-President was the former Mayor of
Maryland, Spiro T. Agnew. After a thorough investigation by the FBI, Agnew was
forced to resign, less than a year prior to Nixon’s own resignation. He plead
guilty to avoid charges of political corruption. He was fined $10,000, and sentenced
to three years’ probation. The state of Maryland disbarred him.
NEWT GINGRICH AND “THE PARTY OF FAMILY VALUES”
For those of us who lived through those years, Newt Gingrich
will be remembered for two reasons: he was a hypocrite and another Republican
criminal who resigned before receiving punishment for his crimes.
Attacks against Bill Clinton resulted in Republican control
of the House in the 1994 midterm elections. In January of 1995, Newt Gingrich
was chosen Speaker of the House, based on his “Contract with America.” He
labeled his party, “the Party of Family Values.”
The latter is laughable. While his first wife was battling
brain cancer, he left her and remarried. His reason? The first Mrs. Gingrich
refused to participate in and “open marriage.”
Gingrich was under investigation for fraud. He was
eventually charged with 12 counts based on fraudulent tax returns. However, he
was allowed to resign as the Speaker in 1998, and the number of charges reduced
to only one. Gingrich resigned from congress in 1999.
ANOTHER REPUBLICAN POLITICIAN AND SEXUAL MISCONDUCT: DENNIS
HASTERT
Gingrich was replaced as Speaker of the House by Dennis
Hastert in 1999, and served until 2007.
In 2010, a man approached Hastert and asked him “why did you
do it?” This began an investigation by the FBI. It was determined that in the
late 1960’s and 1970’s, while Hastert was a high school wrestling coach in
Illinois, he sexually abused at least four young men for a lengthy period of
time.
Hastert plead guilty. The judge labeled him a “serial child
molester,” sentencing him to 15 months in prison and a $250,000 fine. In 2016
he began serving his sentence which lasted 13 months.
All of these men were Republicans.
THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION WILL BE REMEMBERED AS A PACK OF
CRIMINALS
The men in the first part of this story were all very bad
people. However, the Trump administration provided the justice system with a
plethora of criminals and degenerates.
Of course Trump pardoned many of them, including Michael
Flynn, Paul Manafort, Roger Stone, Stephen K. Bannon, and George Papadopoulos.
However, Trump and other members of his staff are facing
criminal charges today. Tom Barrack, Elliot Broidy, Rick Gates, George Nader, and
Rudy Giuliani are among a growing list of criminals employed in the West Wing
by Donald Trump. Steve Bannon is also facing new charges in 2024.
THEY WILL BE REMEMBERED AS “THE WASHINGTON MAFIA”
Trump is a bully, a tyrant, and a pathological liar. From
former aides employed in the West Wing, we learned that “Big Adolf” exploded
into rage frequently. A large number of the White House staff at all levels of
employment resigned, were fired, or forced to resign. When Trump was soundly
defeated in November of 2020, we learned that there were so few members of
Trump’s administration remaining in the working area of the White House, echoes
could be heard.
Working for Trump required a special type of person: one who
shared Trump’s dark and dismal views of America and its future, someone who was
willing to lie for him, and someone who had no fear of being punished for violating
ethics laws.
THE TRUE MEANING OF THE 2020 ELECTION
Facts are not always clear. The mainstream media seldom
offers the American people the whole truth.
In 2020 Trump was defeated. His policies were hated by real Americans.
Personally, I found him obnoxious, arrogant, illiterate, and remain confirmed
that he is a traitor to our nation’s people. When he lost the Electoral College
Vote by a wide margin, and the popular vote by nearly eight million certified
ballots, it was a clear message: “Trump had to go: he was destroying our
country.”
I continue to believe that in 2020, I, and millions of other
voters liked Mr. Biden, but were not excited by him. I have been pleasantly
surprised by his accomplishments and his work ethic. They were greatly missed
between 2017 and 2021.
2024 is not the time for a change in leadership. Trump never
was and never will be a leader for all Americans.
