“It’s the Economy, Stupid”

Political writers claim the results of the 2024 election were based on one single promise made by a pathological liar. Trump said: “I will end inflation on day one.” Personally, I do not agree with the reasons offered by others for Trump’s questionable victory on November 5, 2024. However, I may be wrong and what was in reality “Greedflation” continues to grow today. Not once has Trump mentioned a single effort on his part to address the issue. The fact is that his ill-advised tariffs will be in effect today and the prices of necessities will rise even higher.

In 1992, Democratic political strategist, James Carville, spoke to the press about the coming election. For 12 years Republican presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush destroyed our nation’s economy, adding trillions of dollars to the national debt. They shared the same belief in “trickle-down economics:” give money to the rich and they will increase employment and therefore grow the economy. They were terribly wrong. When Mr. Carville was asked about the issues involved in the 1992 campaign, he was adamant in his response: “It’s the economy, stupid.”

This is as true today as it was in 1992. The super-rich remain the focus of right-wing politicians. This is why the number of billionaires in the United States increased during the destructive days of the Covid-19 pandemic. During that same period of time, millions of working-class Americans lost their jobs, and thousands of small businesses closed their doors.

Americans are guilty of holding onto hope when all appears to be lost. Trump is destroying our country, following his fascist playbook, “Project 2025,” with a little “Mein Kampf” mixed in. As he was in 2017, he is worse than I predicted. This time he has a co-president to help him harm our nation’s future. Elon Musk is another oligarch whose only gods are money and the power to make more money.

For the second time the American people displayed ignorance beyond belief. An obese old fascist, whose life is a tale of failure and crime, is once again playing the role of your president.

Tonight Trump will be speaking to both houses of congress and a number of our country’s people willing to listen to a long and rambling speech composed of lies and false promises. As someone who hates liars more than anything else in the world, I will be watching something entertaining at that time.

I am saddened that although Trump and Musk violate the Constitution constantly, no one with the power to do so is taking action to remove them from their positions of power; the power to destroy the very essence of America.
